K-pop 4세대 여성 아이돌의 음악과 서사의 상관관계 연구: 에스파와 뉴진스를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 K-pop 아이돌의 음악과 서사의 상관관계를 통합적 관점에서 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. K-pop 아이돌은 다양한 매체를 활용해 고유한 이미지와 정체성을 구축하는데 특히 음악적 특징과 서사적 구성이 긴밀한 상관관계를 맺고 있다. 특히 ‘나’를 강조하는 K-pop 4세대 여성 아이돌의 경우, 같은 세대임에도 ‘나’의 이미지와 정체성을 구축하는 방식이 다르게 나타난다. 이에 본 연구에서는 에스파와 뉴진스를 주요 연구대상으로 선정해 선율, 화성, 음색 등 음악적 요소와 뮤직비디오, 가사 등에 나타난 서사적 구성을 비교 분석했다. 분석 결과 에스파 음악의 경우 단조를 활용한 긴장감 조성, 전자음을 통한 미래지향적 음악 구현 등 주로 무겁고 역동적인 특징이 나타났다. 반면 뉴진스 음악의 경우 다성성과 매끄러운 화성 변화, 어쿠스틱 악기와 일상적 소리 구현 등 주로 가볍고 안정적인 특징이 나타났다. 한편 리미널리티이론을 적용해 가사와 뮤직비디오를 분석한 결과 에스파는 무거운 음악과 가상 세계의 여성 영웅 서사를 결합해 리미널한 구성을 지향했으며, 뉴진스는 가벼운 음악과 현실 세계의 단편적인 사건들을 결합해 리미노이드한 구성을 지향했다. 두 아이돌 모두 캐릭터는 선율을 통해서, 사건의 흐름은 화상적 흐름을 통해서, 그리고 공간의 이미지는 음색을 통해서 표현한 점도 확인했다. 이러한 분석 결과를 통해서 4세대 K-pop 여성 아이돌, 그 중에서도 에스파와 뉴진스가 음악적 특징과 서사적 구성을 긴밀히 연계해 자신만의 고유한 이미지와 정체성을 구축한다는 것을 증명했다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between music and narrative of K-pop idols from an integrated perspective. K-pop idols use various media to establish their own images and identities, especially showing the intimate relation between musical characteristics and narrative structures. Particularly 4th-generation K-pop female idols emphasizing the concept of ‘I’, and the methods of constructing the image and identity of ‘I’ differ even in the same generation. For this reason, this study selected aespa and New Jeans as the main subjects and done comparative analysis by musical elements such as melody, harmony, and tone, alongside narrative composition such as music videos and lyrics. The analysis revealed that aespa's music has heavy and dynamic qualities, such as the creation of tension through minor scales and implementing futuristic sounds through electronic timbre. In contrast, NewJeans’ music has light and stable qualities, including smooth harmonic transitions by modal interchange and the emulation of acoustic instruments or everyday sounds. Meanwhile, applying the theory of ‘liminality’ to analyze lyrics and music videos showed that aespa aims for a liminal composition by combining heavy music with female hero narratives set in a virtual world, while NewJeans pursues a liminoid composition by combining light music with fragmentary events from the real world. Furthermore, both groups demonstrated that character traits are expressed through melodic characteristics, the flow of events is conveyed through harmonic flow, and spatial imagery is represented through timbre. Through this way, this study proved that 4th generation K-pop female idols-particularly aespa and NewJeans-have constructed their own distinct images and identities by closely integrating musical characteristics with narrative structures.
