국문 초록

본 연구는 디지털 시대 대중음악의 한 흐름으로 주목받고 있는 로파이(Lo-Fi) 음악의 미학적 특성과 음악적 수용 양상을 고찰한다. 로파이 음악은 의도적인 음향의 불완전성과 낮은 음질을 미학적 자산으로 삼으며, ‘불완전성의 미학(aesthetics of imperfection)’이라는 개념을 중심으로 독자적인 음악 세계를 형성해왔다. 본 논문은 이러한 로파이 음악이 단순한 음향 스타일을 넘어, 감정 조절, 집중력 향상, 휴식, 학습, 작업 보조 등 청취자 일상과 정서에 밀접하게 작용하는 사운드 문화로 확장되고 있다는 점에 주목한다. 연구는 먼저 로파이 음악의 개념 및 장르적 특성을 이론적 배경을 통해 정리하고, 디지털 환경에서의 창작 방식과 음향 기법의 특성을 분석한다. 이어 로파이 음악이 어떻게 감성적·문화적으로 수용되고 있는지를 고찰하며, 그 수용 배경에 있는 정서적 실천과 사회적 맥락을 탐색한다. 특히 ‘낮은 해상도의 사운드’가 청취자에게 정서적 안정과 몰입의 환경을 제공하며, 고음질 중심의 기존 미학과 차별화되는 청취 경험을 형성하고 있음을 밝힌다. 본 연구는 로파이 음악을 단순한 하위 장르로 보기보다, 디지털 시대 특유의 청취 감성 및 미적 전환을 반영하는 문화적 실천으로 바라보고, 이를 통해 동시대 음악미학과 수용문화에 대한 학술적 논의를 확장하고자 한다.

영문 초록

This study examines the aesthetic characteristics and reception of Lo-Fi music, a notable trend in popular music within the digital age. Lo-Fi music constructs its unique sonic world around the concept of the aesthetics of imperfection, embracing intentional low fidelity and sonic flaws as aesthetic assets. Rather than merely a stylistic approach, Lo-Fi music functions as a sound culture that engages closely with listeners' daily lives and emotional states, contributing to emotional regulation, concentration, relaxation, studying, and work support. The study first outlines the conceptual and generic characteristics of Lo-Fi music through its theoretical background, and analyzes its production methods and sonic techniques within digital environments. It then explores how Lo-Fi music is received emotionally and culturally, examining the affective practices and social contexts underlying its popularity. In particular, the study highlights how the low-resolution sound of Lo-Fi provides listeners with emotional stability and immersive experiences, distinguishing it from conventional high-fidelity aesthetics. Ultimately, this research views Lo-Fi music not as a minor subgenre, but as a cultural practice that reflects contemporary listening sensibilities and aesthetic shifts in the digital age. It seeks to contribute to the academic discourse on modern music aesthetics and reception culture by situating Lo-Fi within a broader cultural and emotional framework.
