국문 초록

본 연구는 음악 장르 선호에 영향을 미치는 인구사회학적 요인을 실증적으로 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 음악을 정기적으로 청취하는 성인 남녀 400명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였으며, 성별, 세대, 학력, 정치적 성향을 독립변수로 설정하고, 발라드, 댄스, 힙합, 락, 트로트, 클래식 등 6개 장르에 대한 선호를 종속변수로 하여 상관분석 및 회귀분석을 수행하였다. 특히 세대 변수에 대해서는 단순 선형뿐만 아니라 곡선 형태의 비선형적 관계를 포착하기 위해 중심화된 다항회귀 모형을 적용하였다. 분석 결과, 세대는 대부분의 장르에서 유의미한 영향을 미치는 요인이었으며, 발라드, 댄스, 힙합 장르에서는 역U자형 또는 급격한 감소 형태의 비선형적 관계가 확인되었다. 성별에서는 댄스와 클래식에서 여성의 선호가, 락에서는 남성의 선호가 유의미하게 높게 나타났고, 학력은 클래식에서만 유의한 영향을 보였다. 정치적 성향은 락에서 진보 성향 응답자의 선호가, 트로트에서는 보수 성향 응답자의 선호가 유의미하게 나타났다. 한편, 회귀모형의 설명력은 전반적으로 높지 않은 수준으로, 음악 선호는 인구사회학적 요인 외에도 다양한 개인적·문화적 요인의 영향을 받을 수 있음을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study explores the influence of key socio-demographic factors- gender, generation, educational attainment, and political orientation-on individual preferences for music genres. A survey was conducted with 400 adult respondents who regularly listen to music, examining their preferences across six genres: ballad, dance, hip-hop, rock, trot, and classical. Correlation and regression analyses were performed to identify patterns of association, with polynomial regression models applied to certain genres to account for nonlinear generational effects. The results indicate that generation is a significant predictor for most genres, particularly showing nonlinear relationships in ballad, dance, and hip-hop preferences. Gender differences emerged as well, with women showing a stronger preference for dance and classical music, and men for rock. Educational attainment was significantly related only to classical music, with higher-educated individuals reporting greater preference. Notably, political orientation showed contrasting tendencies between rock and trot, where liberal individuals were more likely to prefer rock while conservative individuals tender to prefer trot. Although the overall explanatory power of the regression models was modest, the findings suggest that musical taste reflects not only individual preferences but also broader socio-cultural identities. This study contributes to the literature by incorporating political orientation into the analysis of music preference and by highlighting genre-based distinctions as a meaningful lens for understanding patterns of musical taste.
