칼 라너의 초자연적 실존범주에 관한 비판적 연구

국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 초자연적 실존범주의 개념을 라너의 초월적 사유가 진행되는 단계적흐름의 맥락에서 파악하고, 개념 안에 함축된 정초의 논리를 근거로 이 개념이 철학과 신학의 관계, 그리고 라너 이후 가톨릭신학의 향방에 미친 영향을 평가하는 것이다. 이를위하여 우선 라너가 사용하는 실존범주의 개념을 정확하게 검토한다. 그리고 라너가 어떻게 실존범주의 개념을 자신의 초기 저작에서 분석하여 정초하고자 했는지 확인한다. 그런데 이 과정에서 이미 ‘자연적 실존범주의 철학적 이해에서 초자연적 실존범주의 신학적이해로의 이행’의 단초를 확인할 수 있다. 라너에게서 초자연적 실존범주 개념의 본격적인 도입으로 특정할 수 있는 이 이행의 단면은 무엇보다『말씀의 청자』초판(1941)과 (이후 라너의 제자 메츠가 작업에 참여한)『말씀의 청자』개정판(1963) 사이의 차이에서 확인할 수 있다. 라너는 초기 저작에서(최소한『말씀의 청자』초판까지는) 인간의 초월을‘초자연적’이 아닌, (인간 현존재의 본래적 존재가능성의 차원으로 이해된) ‘자연적’ 실존범주의 차원에서 철학적으로 해명할 수 있다고 믿었던 것으로 보인다. 그러므로 초자연적실존범주의 의미는 이러한 물음과 함께 앞서 언급한 ‘이행’의 맥락에서 밝힐 수 있는 인간 현존재의 초월적 관점에서 해석할 필요가 있다. 개념의 의미와 그 안에 함축된 정초논리 때문에 초자연적 실존범주는 향후 가톨릭신학 안에서 철학과 신학의 관계, 그리고 가톨릭신학의 향방에 긍정적이면서도 동시에 부정적인 중요한 영향을 미쳤다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to grasp the concept of the supernatural existential(das übernatürliche Existential) within the context of the step-by-step progression of Rahner’s transcendental thought and to evaluate how this concept, based on the logic of foundation (Begründung) embedded in it, has influenced the relationship between philosophy and theology, as well as the direction of Catholic theology after Rahner. To do this, the study first examines the concept of existential(Existential) used by Rahner. It then explores how Rahner sought to analyze and establish the concept of existential in his early works. In this process, the initial signs of the transition from “the philosophical understanding of the natural existential to the theological understanding of the supernatural existential” can already be identified. The specific instance of this transition, which marks the genuine introduction of the concept of the supernatural existential in Rahner’s work, can primarily be found in the difference between the first edition(1941) and the revised edition(1963) of Hörer des Wortes, the latter of which involved Rahner’s disciple Metz. In his early works (at least up to the first edition of Hörer des Wortes), Rahner seems to have believed that the transcendence of human beings could be philosophically explained not in the “supernatural” realm, but within the “natural” existential category, understood as the original possibility of human existence. Therefore, the meaning of the supernatural existential must be interpreted from a transcendental perspective of human existence, which can be clarified within the context of the aforementioned “transition.” Due to the meaning of the concept and the foundational logic embedded within it, the supernatural existential had a significant impact, both positively and negatively, on the relationship between philosophy and theology, as well as the future direction of Catholic theology.
