에이사이(栄西)의 재송(再宋) 중 차생활에 관한 연구

국문 초록

본고는 에이사이가 1, 2차 입송(入宋)을 통하여 다양한 차경험을 하고 귀국 후, 일본 차문화에 영향을 끼친 배경에 대하여 고찰하였다. 일본 차문화사에서 에이사이가 차지하는 비중은 매우 크다고 할 수 있다. 에이사이는 남송(南宋)에 유학하면서 익힌 중국의 차문화를 일본에 전래함으로써 침체된 일본의 차문화를 다시 일어나는 계기를 만들었다. 에이사이는 입송 중 선원에서 『선원청규』를 통한 다례를 경험하였고, 송나라 의사에게 차가 약이라는 것을 직접 들었다. 그리고 천태산에서 오백나한에게 공양한데서 파생한 「나한공차」을 행함으로 종교의례로서의 차경험을 하였다. 이처럼 에이사이는 중국에서의 여러 차생활을 경험한 뒤, 이 경험들을 귀국하면서 모두 일본에 전하였다. 그 결과 견당사 폐지 등으로 침체되 있던 일본 차문화가 다시 부흥하는데 영향력이 컸음을 확인할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study examines various tea culture experiences which Eisai(榮西) had during his first and second visits to the Song Dynasty and the influence he had on Japanese tea culture after returning to Japan. Eisai introduced the Chinese tea culture which he had learned while studying in the Southern Song Dynasty to Japan, thereby creating an opportunity to revitalize the stagnant Japanese tea culture. During his visits to the Song Dynasty, Eisai experienced the tea ceremony based on “Chanyuan qinggui(禪苑淸規, a set of rules for Zen monasteries)” at Zen temples and heard directly from a Song Dynasty doctor that tea is medicine. In addition, he experienced a religious aspect of tea culture. He treated tea for arhats, which originated from a tradition of treating tea as an offering for Five Hundred Arhats on Mt.Tiantai. Eisai experienced various tea-related aspects in China and brought all of these experiences to Japan. As a result, it can be confirmed that he had a great influence on reviving the Japanese tea culture that had been stagnant due to various issues including the abolition of the Kentoshi(遣唐使).
