국문 초록

20세기 후반에 해양질서가 변화하면서 21세기를 전후하여 한일 간에 독도주권을 둘러싼 이슈가 다시 부상했다. 이 연구의 목적은 한국의 2022 초·중등학교 교육과정의 사회과 지리 영역의 개발과 독도 기술의 특징을 고찰하는 것이다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 초등학교에서는 독도와 관련하여 ‘우리의 고유 영토’, ‘영토 관련 분쟁’이라는 표현이 사라졌다. 중학교에서는 독도에 대한 내용 기술이 종래에 비해 간결해졌다. 그리고 고등학교에서는 한일 간에 갈등을 초래할 수 있는 독도와 동해 지명으로 인해 학생들이 혐오나 반일감정을 형성하지 않도록 지도하고, 주변국과의 협력과 발전, 평화와 공존을 모색하는 내용이 새롭게 기술되었다. 전반적으로 2022 초·중등학교 교육과정에서 독도는 올바른 이해와 가치를 강조하면서 한일 간에 갈등을 극복하기 위한 내용으로 기술되었다. 이는 글로벌화 시대에 지리교육이 지향하는 글로컬 시민의 자질 함양, 지리교육학계의 바람직한 영토교육의 방향 모색, 그리고 현 정부의 미래지향적 한일 관계 등이 교육과정 개발에 영향을 미친 것이다.

영문 초록

As the oceanic order changed in the late 20th century, issues surrounding Dokdo sovereignty resurfaced between Korea and Japan around the 21st century. The purpose of this study is to examine the development of the geography areas of Social Studies in the 2022 revised school curriculum of Korea and the characteristics of descriptions of Dokdo. The research results are summarized as follows. In the elementary school curriculum, expressions such as ‘our inherent territory’ and ‘territorial dispute’ regarding Dokdo have disappeared. In the middle school one, content descriptions about Dokdo have become more concise than before. In the high school curriculum, new content was written to teach students not to form hatred or anti-Japanese sentiments due to Dokdo and the name of the East Sea, which could cause conflict between Korea and Japan, and to seek cooperation, development, peace, and coexistence with neighboring countries. Overall, in the 2022 elementary and middle school curriculum, Dokdo was described in order to overcome conflict between Korea and Japan while emphasizing correct understanding and values. This is due to the cultivation of the qualities of glocal citizens that geography education aims for in the era of globalization, the search for a desirable direction for territorial education in the geography education community, and the current government's future-oriented Korea-Japan relationship, etc., which influenced the development of the curriculum.
