국문 초록

『손자병법』의 연구에 있어서 가장 큰 장애물은 춘추전국시대 孫武의 『손자병법』 진본이 존재하지 않는다고 하는데 있다. 眞本이 뒷받침되어야 손무 사상의 연원을 추측할 수 있는데, 현대에 전해지는 것은 후한 말기의 제왕 曹操가 자신의 부하 장수들에게 전쟁 지침서로 남겨 준 帝王 중심의 전쟁론이 대부분이다. 그럼에도 불구하고 『손자병법』은 현대의 자유 민주주의 국민국가 시대의 국방개념과 거리가 있고, 孫武의 병법을 현대에 어떻게 적용할 것인가도 문제이다. 왜냐하면 현대 국가 통치의 방법은 다양한 관계로 인해 왕정의 국가는 兵法을 그대로 적용한다 해도 자유 민주주의 공화정 국가에서는 통수권 체제 자체가 다르기 때문이다. 이 때문에 손무의 진의가 담긴 병법의 원리라든가 사상적 淵源을 파악함으로서 철학화 작업이 요구된다고 본다. 이러한 이론작업의 보완을 위해서 『손자병법』의 연구는 다음과 같은 방법을 제안한다. 淸皇朝 시대에 유행했던 고증학적 연구방법의 장점을 취해야 한다. 이어서 현대적 가치를 추출할 고고학 발굴을 적극 모색해야 한다고 본다. 덧붙여 『손자병법』의 연구는 비교적 연구가 덜 된 분야로서 철학계와 군사학계의 많은 관심과 더불어 학술적인 천착이 이루어져야 한다. 본 연구의 목적에 부합하듯이 손무와 노자사상의 架橋에 이어서 손무와 병가사상을 접근함으로써 그가 추구하고자 하는 진정한 평화 전략이 무언가를 모색해야 하는 과제가 남겨진 셈이다.

영문 초록

The biggest obstacle to the study of The Art of War (or Sun Tzu's Art of War; 孫子兵法) written by Sun Wu is that the original copy, dating back to the warring states period, does not exist. The origins of Sun Wu's thoughts can be inferred only if the original copy is supported, but most of what is handed down in modern times is the ruler-centered war theory, which was left by Emperor Cao Cao (曹操) at the end of the late Han Dynasty as a war guidebook for his subordinates. Nevertheless, the concept of national defense of The Art of War is far from that of the modern liberal democratic nation-state era; how to apply Sun Wu's tactics to modern times is also a matter to consider. This is because even if the military strategy and tactics of absolute monarchy are applied as they are, the military command system itself is different due to various relationships in the liberal democratic republic, which is the main method of governance in modern countries. For this reason, it is considered necessary to philosophize on the book in a way that attempts to grasp the art of war or the ideological origins reflecting his true meaning or intention. To supplement such theoretical work, the following method is proposed for the study of The Art of War. It should take advantage of the bibliographical study (考證學) method that was popular during the Qing Dynasty. Then, archaeological excavations to derive modern values should be actively sought. In addition, the study of the book is a relatively under-researched field, so academic research should be conducted, along with much interest and support from the philosophical and military academies. In line with the purpose of this study, if Sun Wu and theories of the Military School (兵家; Bingjia) are approached after understanding the relationship between Sun Wu's and Laotzu's Thought, the task that remains is to find out what the true peace strategy was that he wanted to pursue.
