『주역』의 4혼괘(四婚卦) 분석을 통한 혼인관 연구

국문 초록

이 논문은 주역의 4혼괘(四婚卦, 이하 4혼괘)를 분석하여 주역이 성립해 가는 시기의 혼인관을 고찰한 논문이다. 4혼괘는 모두 하경(下經)에 있다. 상경이 천도(天道)를 주관한다면 하경은 인도(人道)와 인사(人事)에 대한 내용이다. 함(咸)괘는 남녀가 교감을 통해 부부가 되는 과정을 나타낸 것으로 하경의 첫머리에 나온다. 항(恒)괘는 부부의 도를 나타낸다. 항(恒)이란 영구하고 변치 않으며 항상성이 있는 것이다. 두 괘의 특징은 각 효 마다 정응(正應)이 잘 되어 있다는 것이다. 그러나 두 괘에는 길한 효사가 없는데, 이것은 서로 호응을 하고 교감이 되어 사귈 때는 차가운 이성을 갖기가 힘들다는 것을 의미한다. 항덕(恒德) 또한 변치 않는 덕으로 좋은 의미이지만 상황에 맞게 항덕을 펼쳐야 함을 보여준다. 점(漸)괘는 일을 진행할 때, 급히 하는 것이 아니라 점진적으로 순서를 밟아가며 일을 행하는 것이다. 이를 혼인의 육례(六禮)에 비유하여 설명하였다. 귀매(歸妹)괘는 정상적인 혼인이 아닌 첩으로 가는 혼인이다. 정당한 혼인이 아니지만 생명을 잉태할 수 있는 큰 뜻이 있다. 4혼괘는 모두 각각의 다른 양상으로 혼인의 모습을 우리에게 보여준다. 과거에도 정도를 지키는 사람이 있지만 외도와 불륜을 하는 사람의 모습을 여과 없이 보여주기도 한다. 그러므로 천도와 인도는 같으면서도 다른 모습이 있다. 왜냐하면 인간에게는 식(食)과 색(色)이 큰 욕망으로 작용하기 때문이기도 하다. 과거나 현재의 우리에게도 혼인은 인륜의 대사이며 시작점이다. 인간의 대욕(大欲)이라는 음식과 남녀의 문제는 음양의 차이처럼 일정한 답이 없다. 본능이 천도라면 혼인이라는 인륜은 삼가고 겸허히 처세해야 가정이 지켜진다. 그러한 과정을 4혼괘는 모두 함축하고 있다.

영문 초록

This study analyzes the four matrimony hexagrams of Changes of the Zhou (周易, Zhouyi) and examines views on marriage in that era. All four matrimony hexagrams are covered in the Second Series (下经, Xiajing) of the book. The First Series (上经, Shangjing) mainly handles the way of Heaven (天道), while the Second Series is about the way of human nature (human duty), and human affairs. The hexagram Xian (咸) appears at the beginning of the Second Series. When a man and a woman become a couple based on feelings of sympathy, the hexagram Heng (恒) represents the couple's morality. Heng (恒) is permanent, unchanging, and homeostatic. The characteristic of these two hexagrams is that each line (爻, yao) is well matched (正應). However, the reason why there is no auspicious line statements (爻辭) related to these two hexagrams is because it is difficult to be dispassionate when two people meet each other and form feelings of sympathy towards one another. Hengde (恒德) is also a good word meaning a virtue that does not change, but it shows that you should develop your virtue according to the situation. The hexagram Fengshanjian (風山漸) signifies doing things in a gradual order, not in a hurry. This is explained by analogy with the six steps of a marriage ceremony (六禮). The hexagram Leizeguimei (雷澤歸妹) connotes a marriage that is not normal, but a marriage of obtaining or being a concubine. Although it is not a legitimate marriage, it has significant meaning in terms of being able to conceive life. Each of the four matrimony hexagrams presents us with different aspects of marriage. Even in the past, although there were people who maintained marital fidelity, the hexagrams also nature are the same but have different appearances. This is also because the great desires of appetite and lust act on humans. Both in the past and in the present, marriage is the great event of our lives and the starting point of human morality. There is no fixed answer to the problem of food and the relation between the sexes, the great human desires, like the difference between yin and yang. If instinct is the way of Heaven, you should refrain from actions that are contrary to human morality and behave humbly to protect your family. All four matrimony hexagrams imply such a process. It is left up to each of us to maintain and cultivate a virtuous marriage.
