음악 교과를 통해 본 시기별 초등학교 교육과정의 통합교과 ‘즐거운 생활’에 관한 분석

국문 초록

이 연구는 음악 교과의 시각을 통해 통합교과가 시작된 제4차부터 현 2022 개정 통합교과 교육과정에 이르기까지 초등학교 저학년 통합교과 ‘즐거운 생활’의 분석을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 교육과정 총론과 ‘즐거운 생활’ 통합교과서의 음악과 내용을 분석하여 즐거운 생활에서 음악과의 현주소를 살피고, 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 더 나아가 초등학교 저학년 음악과의 나아갈 방향을 제언하고자 한다. 분석 결과, 첫째로 음악 내용의 오류이다. 음악에서 ‘감상’은 음악을 듣는 행위뿐만 아닌 음악을 들으면서 사고를 하는 영역이나 즐거운 생활에는 음악 듣기 활동만 제시되어 있다. 둘째로 음악 학습 단계의 오류이다. 창작에 해당하는 노래 만들기나 뮤직비디오 만들기는 음악과에서 5학년이나 6학년에 제시되는 내용으로 학생의 발달 단계와 음악적 단계를 고려하지 않았다. 셋째로 차시에 맞지 않은 과다 내용이 다수 발견된다. 물론 지도서에는 교사가 실정에 맞게 교과와 시수를 재구성하게 안내하고 있으나 기준이 없는 자율은 교사의 혼란만 가중된다. 넷째, 2022 개정 즐거운 생활에 이르기까지 음악 활동이 점차 사라졌다. 주제 중심 통합교과는 여러 측면에서 초등학교 시기에 주요한 교과이다. 다만 여러 교과를 통합하여 주제를 논하는 것 못지않게 독립교과에서 초등 시기에 길러주어야 할 역량이 무시되어서는 안 된다. 음악 교과가 지난 40년 동안 자리하지 못한 초등학교 저학년 시기에 학생들을 위한 음악 교과의 부활은 더 이상 늦출 수 없다.

영문 초록

This study aimed to analyze the ‘Pleasant Life’ integrated curriculum in early elementary education, examining its evolution from the 4th national curriculum, when integrated curricula were first introduced, to the 2022 revised version, with a specific focus on its application within the music curriculum. The study revealed the following findings: First, there were inaccuracies in the music content. In music education, ‘listening’ should involve not only hearing music but also engaging in cognitive activities. However, the ‘Pleasant Life’ curriculum focuses solely on listening activities without this broader engagement. Second, there were issues with the progression of music learning stages. Activities like composing songs or creating music videos, which are part of composition, are introduced in the 5th or 6th grade curriculum without considering the developmental and musical stages of the students. Third, there are many instances of excessive content that does not align with the lesson objectives. Although the teaching guide suggests that teachers can adjust the curriculum and class hours to suit their specific needs, the lack of clear standards only adds to teachers’ confusion. Fourth, up until the 2022 revised ‘Pleasant Life’ curriculum, there has been a notable absence of music activities. While the integrated curriculum is essential and includes a range of topic-centered content vital for elementary education, integrating multiple subjects around a single theme can be challenging. The revival of music education, which has been overlooked in early elementary grades for the past 4 decades, can no longer be delayed.
