국문 초록

<더 스퀘어>는 개인 삶에서 일어나는 ‘사건으로서 현대 예술과의 만남’을 보여준다. 본 연구는 사적 환경의 수동성에서 시작된 ‘사건’이 공적 환경의 능동성으로 변해가면서 사유의 운동을 일으키는 예술 역할에 관한 논의이다. 동시대의중요한 시네아스트이자 스웨덴의 젊은 감독 루벤 외스툴룬드는 자신의 첫 예술프로젝트가 지역사회 구성원들의 만남과 소통에 지속적인 영향을 주는 모습을직접 보게 된다. 이후, ‘예술이 우리 삶에 미치는 영향’을 구체적으로 확대하고자영화로 기획하여 2017년 다섯 번째 장편 영화로 칸 황금 종려상을 수상한 <더 스퀘어>를 마침내 완성한다. 그는 전작과는 다른 소재인 ‘예술’을 통하여 사회적 비판의식으로 본 예술의 현실태를 냉소적 유머와 함께 제시한다. 그러나 본 연구는루벤 외스툴룬드 감독이 예술을 보는 사회적 시선과는 다른 관점에서 출발한다. <더 스퀘어>의 텍스트 분석은 유동성과 변수라는 생명력으로 점철된 사회적공간 속에서 찾는 예술의 잠재태에 관한 발견이자 본질적 기능에 관한 질문이다. 공공성의 예술이 갖는 사회적 역할에 중점을 둔 감독과는 달리, 본인은 리오타르가 말한 ‘사건’으로 나타난 예술적 공간 <더 스퀘어> 의 의미를 세 유형의 작품과 함께 분석하고자 한다. 수석큐레이터 크리스티안이 겪는 사건들은 인간 행동의 모순과 돌발적 상황의출현으로 삶에 균열을 일으킨다. 감독은 인물과 사건과는 일정한 거리를 유지하며 예술적 비인간화가 되어가는 사유의 운동 과정을 관찰한다. 비 재현성의 물질로 화이트 입방체 공간에서 예술 작품과 마주친 관객의 감정은 이해를 넘어선 숭고미의 새로운 경험이다. 사건은 바라보는 자에서 행하는 자로 실천적 이행을 가능하게 하는 촉매의 역할로 존재한다. 좋은 영화와 예술의 공통점은 일상의 사건속에서 나타나지만, 우리가 만나는 사건 형태가 사람이든 사물이든 아이디어든선택은 관객인 우리들의 몫일 것이다.

영문 초록

represents ‘meeting with the modern art’ as the accidents happening in personal life. This study is a discussion of the role of art that promotes the reasoning process while the accident that started from the passiveness of private environment changes to the activeness of public environment. Director Ruben Ostlund, who is considered as an important cineast in the contemporary period directly experienced the constant effects of his executed art project on meeting and communications with the community members at that times and then planned to make it into a movie in order to expand the ‘impact of art on our life’ specifically. And so he completed , which was awarded Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival as the fifth full-length film in 2017. With art, theme different from the previous work, he represented social awareness toward the problems of the current state, which are considered as both disconnection between strata and value of wealth in capitalism only humorously and sharply without any omissions. But his work starts from the perspective different from his eyes on the reality of art in society. Analyzing movie texts is a discovery of the Vituel of Art and the reasoning process that enabled him to find the answer to the fundamental question“What is art that you’ve studied for so long?”on his own. The artistic meaning of as the accidents was analyzed based on reasoning of Lyotard, Jean-Francois. The accidents in the displaying process that senior curator Christian underwent are contradictions of humankind and appearance of unexpected situations, thus vibrating and cracking his life. The director observes the reasoning process that artistic dehumanization is happening at a gallery, keeping a certain distance all the time. The audience’s feeling toward the art work that they met in a white cubic space as non-reproductive material is an accident and an experience of sublimity beyond understanding as well and thus enables the practical transition from the viewer to the doer. What is common between good movie and art appears in the accident. As Deleuze said, the choice will be ours, whether the form we meet is human, thing, idea, or whatever.
