국문 초록

이 글은 김기덕의 <빈집>을 한국 특정한 문화적인 맥락에 놓고, 김기덕이 어떻게 서술 주체, 주체의 공간, 그리고 선화의 주체 형성과정을 구축하고 재현하는지 탐구하고자 한다. 이 글은 김기덕이 “사물”과 권력주체에게 서술한 위치를 부여했다고 주장한다, 선화는 주체가 될 때에만 서술한 위치를 갖게 된다. 두 번째, 김기덕은 주체의 이질적인 빈 공간을 보여준다. 결국, 선화는 주체와 주체의 위치로(“창녀”부터 여주인까지; 보여지는 것, 욕망당하는 것, 마조히즘적인 객체부터 서술한 주체까지) 성공적으로 호명되고, 빈 집의 공백을 채우며, 현대의 공백을 채우게 되었다; 그녀는 이 “빈집”을 집으로 만들었다. 또한 이 글은 선화의 정체성 변화가 김기덕의 정체성이 객체에서 주체로의 전변을 완성했고 한국의 정체성이 분단국가에서 새로운 주권국가로 및 식민 객체에서 “주체”로 전변을 시사하는 것으로 보인다고 주장한다.

영문 초록

This article attempts to situate Kim Ki-Duk’s 3-Iron within the Korean cultural context to explore how Kim constructs and represents the silent and speaking subject, the subject’s space, as well as the process of Sun-hwa’s subject formation. First, this article argues that Kim endows “things” and power-holding subjects with a speaking position; Sun-hwa has a speaking position only when she becomes a subject. Second, Kim presents the subject’s empty and heterotopic space—has been disintegrated and encroached upon by compressed modernity and the neoliberal capitalist system. Finally, Sun-hwa is successfully interpellated onto a subject and subject’s position (from a “whore” to a homemaker; from a being “looked at” and “desired” as well as a masochistic object to a speaking subject), filling the void of the empty house, filling the modern void; she turns the “empty house” into a home. In addition, the article also argues that Sun-hwa’s shift in identity seems to suggest that Kim has completed his transformation from an object to a subject; allegorically, it seemingly could also connote South Korea’s national identity shift from a divided nation to a new sovereign state, from a colonial object to a “subject” in its own right.
