多重视角下彩礼的解读

국문 초록

채례(彩礼)가 전하는 궁극적인 의미는 중국 문화가 혼인에 대해 어떻게 인지하는가 하는데 있다. 현재 중국 학계의 채례에 관련 연구는 주로 거시적 측면 즉 사회학적 관점에서 채례 형성과정 해석에 초점을 맞추고 있으며 개인적 시각에서 채례가 갖는 의미에 대한 연구가 부족한 실정이다. 본 논문은 산동성(山東省) 서남지역의 C현(縣)을 중심으로 연구사례를 선정하였으며 저자의 관찰 내용을 바탕으로 중국식 채례의 논의 과정을 기술하였다. 이 논문은 남성과 여성, 그리고 부모님들의 시각에서 채례에 대한 인식, 채례가 갖는 의미 등 내용을 해석하고자 하였다. 이러한 연구를 통해서 본 논문은 향후 고가 '채례' 현상 연구에 시사점을 제시하고자 하였다. 본 논문의 다섯 명 사례자들은 '채례' 합의에서의 경험, 인식, 그리고 '채례'가 갖는 역할에 대한 견해와 함께 이러한 '채례'를 합의하는 과정에서의 부담과 번뇌도 함께 구술하였다. '채례'를 합의하는 과정에서 각자가 담당하는 역할로 인하여 '채례'에 대한 인식도 달랐다. 요컨대 연구 참여자들이 연애에서 혼인까지 가게 된 주요 동기는 무엇보다 그 동안의 감정에 대한 책임이며 다음은 상대가 본인의 인생 반려로 적합하다는 판단에서 출발 한 것이다. 혼인의 동기와 무관하게 남자 측은 '채례' 금액에 대한 결정권이 없으며 여자 측에서 금액을 제시 한 후 남.녀 쌍방의 합의를 결쳐서 최종적으로 '채례'의 금액이 결정된다. 이러한 과정에서 '채례'가 갖는 의미가 극대화되는 현상이 발생하기도 한다. 남자의 시각에서 '채례'는 연애에서 혼인으로 향하는 '걸림돌'이며 일단 채플을 모으면 혼인으로 향하는 입장권을 갖게 되는 셈이다. 여성의 시각에서 '채례'는 남편과 시댁이 자신에게 주는 '안심환(定心丸)'이며 '채례'가 혼인의 보증서 뿐만 아니라 결혼 후 자신의 삶의 보장이기도 하다. 부모의 시각에서 '채례'는 자녀에게 주는 액수가 가장 큰 ‘용돈'이며 이는 단지 금전적 의미 뿐만 아니라 이는 부모가 자녀의 주는 최대의 축복이기도 하다.

영문 초록

Betrothal gifts is a concept of Chinese betrothal marriage, and its ultimate meaning is linked to how Chinese culture views the union of the sexes. At present, Chinese academic researches on betrothal gifts mainly focus on the analysis of the formation mechanism of sky-high betrothal gifts from the perspective of sociology at the macro level, and lack of researches on the significance of betrothal gifts from the perspective of individuals at the micro level. At the same time, the subjects of previous studies are mainly rural youth, and there is a lack of research on how urban youth understand the significance of betrothal gifts. Taking C County in the southwest of Shandong Province as the field observation point, this paper selects and interprets the representative cases in the process of negotiating betrothal gifts according to the observation experience, and tries to explain their views on the betrothal gifts and their cognition of the functions held by the betrothal gifts from the three different identity perspectives of men, women and parents, so as to provide a reasonable research path for an all-round understanding of the phenomenon of "high price betrothal gifts". Five research participants in this paper gave oral accounts of their experience and understanding in the negotiation process of betrothal gifts and their views on the role of betrothal gifts. In the process of negotiating betrothal gifts, due to their different positions, their understanding of betrothal gifts is also different. In short, the main motivation of the study participants from love to marriage is the responsibility for the feelings during this period, and the second is to judge whether the other party is suitable for their life partner. It has nothing to do with the motive of marriage. The man has no right to decide the amount of the betrothal gifts. After the woman proposes the amount, the amount of the betrothal gifts is finally decided by both parties through negotiation. In this process, the phenomenon of maximizing the meaning of betrothal gifts will also occur. From a man's perspective, "betrothal gifts" is a "stumbling block" for love to move towards marriage. Once the betrothal gifts is collected, it is equivalent to having an entrance ticket to marriage. From the perspective of women, the "betrothal gifts" is the "reassurance" given by the husband and the family in law. The "betrothal gifts" is not only the guarantee of marriage, but also the guarantee of their own life after marriage. From the perspective of parents, "betrothal gifts" is the largest amount of "pocket money" given to children, which is not only the meaning of money, but also the greatest blessing given by parents to children.
