인도 20대(大) 갑부 기업인의 카스트별 구성변화와 함의

국문 초록

본 연구는 포브스(Forbes)의 최근 15년간 인도의 20대(大) 억만장자 자료를 바탕으로 △과거인도의 비즈니스에서 막강한 영향력을 행사해온 상인카스트 출신들의 부의 창출 추세가 현재에도 이어지는지 △신흥 비즈니스세력으로 부상하는 비(非)상인카스트들의 인도 20대 갑부에든 기업인들은 얼마나 되는지 △부의 창출 측면에서 오늘날 상인카스트 출신 기업인들의 위상은 어느 정도인지 △상인카스트 중에서는 어떤 비즈니스(상인)공동체가 거대 20대 갑부 내에 많이 포함돼 있는지 △ 마르와리상인 출신 기업인들이 최근 IT(정보기술) 등 신산업 환경에 적응하지 못하고 쇠퇴하는지 △조사기간 동안 명멸한 갑부 기업인들은 누구인지 등을 분석했다. 분석결과는 첫째, 인도 20대 갑부 중에서 전통적 비즈니스 주도세력인 상인카스트출신 기업인의 비율이 여전히 압도적이었다. 둘째, 상인공동체는 마르와리상인, 구자라티상인, 파르시상인, 펀자비상인, 신디상인, 체티아르상인 출신 기업인 순으로 인도의 20대 갑부에 많이 들었다. 셋째, 상인공동체 중에서 마르와리상인의 위상이 여전히 높았으나 최근 구자라티상인과 파르시상인 출신 기업인들의 숫자가 증가세를 나타냈다. 넷째, 최근 인도 억만장자 기업인들의 총재산이 급증하고 있다는 사실을 분명히 확인했다. 다섯째, 분석기간 동안 인도 최고 갑부기업인들의 부침(浮沈)이 적지 않았는데, 이는 이들이 소유한 기업의 흥망성쇠에따라 재산도 오르내렸기 때문이다.

영문 초록

This research is conducted based on the Forbes India’ in recent 15 years to figure out the followings: △Whether the Indian merchant caste’s influence of creating wealth on India’s business is an on-going status quo or not, △ Figure out the proportion rate of other castes rather than merchant caste in 20 big Indian billionaires, △In the aspect of creating wealth, what would be the current reputation of entrepreneurs from merchant caste △In terms of merchant caste, especially which business community is ranked high in the 20 big billionaires in India. The result of this research is firstly, the proportion of Vaisya, merchant caste is still governing in India’s 20 big billionaires. Secondly, in case of merchant caste community’s proportion among India’s 20 big billionaires, Marwaris(42.37%), Gujaratis(30.5%), Parsis(13.7%), Punjabis(6.5%), Sindhis(5.3%), Chettiars(1.5%) were ranked in this order. Thirdly, Marwari community was still showing its high reputation among merchant caste. However, merchants from Gujarati and Parsi community are gaining their numbers, being a threat to Marwari community. Fourthly, it has been shown that Indian billionaires’ total assets are rapidly increasing in recent years. Lastly, during conducting the research, India’s most wealthy entrepreneurs’ rises and falls of their asset were shown frequently. The main reason for this was due to their business performances’ ups and downs in growth.
