국문 초록

아브라함 카이퍼(1837-1920)는 76세 때부터 6년간 자신이 편집장으로 섬긴 주간지 ‘De Heraut’에 요한계시록에 관해 기고했다. 이 책은 그의 사후에 출판되었는데, 국내에는 생소하다. 그 무렵 헤르만 바빙크(1854-1921)는 『개혁교의학 4』(1895/1906)의 마지막 제11부에서 예수님의 재림을 포함하여 종말을 다루었다. 그런데 국내에서 넓게는 바빙크의 종말론, 좁게는 재림에 대한 조직신학 및 성경신학적 연구를 거의 찾아볼 수 없다. 그리고 워필드의 재림 이해도 큰 주목을 받지 못해 온 것으로 보인다. 본 연구의 목적은 별다른 주목을 받지 못한 채 연구의 미진한 부분으로 남겨진 카이퍼와 바빙크 그리고 워필드의 종말론 가운데 예수님의 재림에 초점을 모아 그들의 이해를 소개하고 비교하며 평가하는 데 있다. 이를 위해, 교부들의 계시록 주석, 세 학자 당시의 네덜란드어 요한계시록 주석, 그리고 현대의 요한계시록 주석과 연구를 참고한다. 마지막으로 이 세 학자의 예수님의 재림 이해에 나타난 문제점을 극복하기 위해 올바른 주석의 방향을 간략히 제시할 것이다. 개혁주의 종말론 가운데 예수님의 재림에 대한 연구는 그리 많지 않은 편이다. 따라서 본 연구는 역사적 개혁주의가 그리스도의 재림에 대해 어떻게 이해해 왔는가를 동시적으로 살피는 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

Abraham Kuyper(1837-1920) wrote about the book of Revelation in the weekly magazine De Heraut for which he served as the editor for six years from the age of 76. His commentary on the book of Revelation as one volume book was published after his death, but it is still unfamiliar in Korea. Around that time, Herman Bavinck(1854-1921) dealt with the eschatology including the Second Coming of Jesus, in the last part 11 of Volume 4 (1895/1906) of Reformed Dogmatics. In Korea, however, there are hardly any systematic theological and biblical exegetical studies on Bavinck’s eschatology in general, and the Second Coming in particular. Similarly, a proper attention to the eschatology focused on the Second Coming by Benjamin B, Warfield has not been paid. The purpose of this study is to introduce, compare, and evaluate their understanding by focusing on the Second Coming of Jesus in the eschatology of Kuyper, Bavinck, and Warfield. To evaluated the theories of the Second Coming of these three theologians, the present researcher refers to the commentaries of Revelation by the Church Fathers, a Dutch New Testament scholar at the time of theses three theologians, and recent scholars. Finally, a brief comment is to given for overcoming the weaknesses of Kuyper, Bavinck, and Warfield on their understandings of the Second Coming.
