Seok Joo, Kwon Phil was a great writer who lived during the reigns of King Seonjo and the Kwanghae-Kun. The aim of this thesis is to clarify his literary position as a poet through the origin and analysis of his poems, and comments of all literary scholars. This paper deals with just his Chinese poems out of Seok-Joo Jip, the main collections from the first volume to the eighth, and the first volume of the separate collections as the subject of study. He was a descendant of a distinguished family producing many fine writers and moral philosophers after Yang Chon, Kwon Kun. From his childhood he was under influence of that circumstance both intellectual and spritual. He didn t take a state examination, for he hated flattery and slander. So writing poems and drinks was taken pleasure and he roved through the country. He came to die on the way in exile because of satirical poem Kungyu-shi which was expressed criticism of government leadership. At that time, literary view of making much of truth and of escaping Chujahac(朱子學) stood together. Instillation propagandism of poems of Dang China came into being arise strongly. In looking about the origin of his poetry, we know that he followed various good points of associated authors at his age. He was influenced by pastorals of Do Youn-Mung, especially Du Bo, and Baek Nack-Chun. He remained many literary works which borrowed and harmoniged with their rhyme. After he learned literary styles of Jin, Dang, and Song China, he established his own style. In Analyzing his poetry, we know that he wrote any type of poems. He had free and bold hand, so he could express his poetic imaginary with perfect freedom. He like to write Yul-shi (律詩) and Go-shi (古詩). Especially he was an outstanding figure in writing free verse (古詩). The main subjects of his verse were solitude, lamentation, regrets at parting, thoughts of heart, grief, admiration, latitude and elegance of mind, and allegory. His verse revealed his own personality and social absurdity with his various expressions. On the basis of the main subjects, his verse are divided lyric poems, satirical poems, and romantic poems. In lyric poems, he revealed lyricism with his acute intelligence, delicate emotion, and magnanimous disposition. Especially his satirical poems were well-known to us. He represented his anger and absurdity of his days with sharp criticism in them. In romantic poems he filled his poetic desire with deep emotion of romantic nature. He was absorbed in writing poems which was life itself. He was an excellent poet who established his characteristic position as an outsider. And he was a master of modulation and writing free verse (古詩).
