대학글쓰기 평가방법과 학업성취도의 관계

국문 초록

인문학(과) 통폐합이 주를 이루는 대학구조조정에 대한 보완책으로 대학 교육과정에서 기초, 교양교육(liberal arts education)이 강화되고 있다. 그런데 대학의 교양교육에 대한 정책과 개편방향은 정부의 재정지원과 같은 외적 동인과 연결된다. 그것은 교육성과를 가시적인 결과물로 내놓기를 요구하며, 수치로 환원되는 평가와 결부될 수밖에 없는 구조를 만들게 된다. 교육성과를 가시화한다는 것이 인문학적 사유를 근간으로 하게 되는 기초교양 교과목의 특성과 어울리지는 않지만 교양교육의 입지를 굳히고 독립성을 보장받기 위해 계량화된 교과목 평가 지표를 충족해야 한다. 그에 따라 교육내용, 교재개발, 평가방법을 조율하는 것이 교양교육의 현실이다. 이 논문은, 2014년 기초교육대학을 설립하고 2016년 VERUM 교양대학으로 명칭을 변경하여 교양교육과정 확장·개편안을 시행하고 있는 강원도의 C대학교 글쓰기 교과목 운영방식을 사례로, 성과보고를 위해 시행하고 있는 제도가 교과목 운영에 어떠한 영향을 미치고 있는지, 그리고 교과목표-교육내용-교육평가 과정의 변화가 실제 교육현장에서 어떤 의미를 갖는지를 실증적으로 보여주고자 했다. 논의 결과는 다음과 같다. 학업성취도를 정량적으로 드러내기 위해 객관식 문항으로 온라인 시험을 시행한 학기와 그렇지 않은 학기의 학업성취도를 비교했을 때 전자의 학업성취도는 물론 만족도도 낮게 나타났다. 학업성취도는 온라인 객관식 평가 점수와 과제 수행능력 평가·서술형시험 결과와 비교했으면, 상관성이 있는 자료로 활용한 수업만족도를 토대로 유의미한 해석을 얻어냈다. 실험집단은 2014년 1학기-2015년 2학기까지의 분반별 학생이나 사전역량 평가 점수에서 차이를 보이지 않은 동질집단이다.

영문 초록

General education of the liberal arts is being strengthened as a countermeasure to university restructuring that currently focuses on the merging of the humanities. University policies and the direction of liberal arts education reorganization are connected to external forces such as government financial support. These external forces require visible outcomes, which generates a structure that is inextricably linked to quantitative assessment. However, quantifying the output of liberal arts education based on humanistic thinking seems unreasonable given that it does not accord with the subjects characteristics. Nevertheless, a number of universities inevitably tend to adjust the contents of teaching, the development of textbooks, and the method of assessment to suit the quantitative assessment criteria, as this measure can set liberal arts education’s position and independence in the present situation. This paper empirically shows the effects of the achievement report system on the management of courses, and the significance of systematizing the process of educational objectives, contents, and evaluation observed in the education field. In order to demonstrate it, this paper studies the case of the management of writing courses in Catholic Kwandong University where the College of General Education was founded in 2014 and where the reorganization of liberal arts education is ongoing.
