국문 초록

1980년대 초 미국의 스포츠 이론가 Bill James가 제안한 야구경기의 승률을 계산하는 공식에 피타고라스 정리가 있다. 이 공식은 우리나라에서도 승률을 꽤 정확하게 예측할 수 있으며 실제 승률과 공식에 의한 승률의 차이를 보정하기 위하여 총득점과 총실점을 제곱하지 않고 지수를 2에서 1.87로 약간 낮추었다(이장택·김용태, 2006).본 연구에서는 우리나라의 여자프로농구와 프로축구 경기에 대한 승률을 추정하려고 한다. 고려된 두 가지 방법은 피타고라스 정리와 연관된 가우스 방법을 사용하였는데, 결과적으로 이러한 방법들이 야구보다는 떨어지지만 승률을 제법 정확하게 예측하였으며, 따라서 대부분의 스포츠는 승률과 득점 및 실점은 연관성이 상당히 있음을 확인할 수 있었다.

영문 초록

The primary method for determining winning percentage in baseball is Bill James Pythagorean theorem. This formula works reasonably well in the case of Korean Pro-baseball and we recommend 1.87 as the ideal exponent to make the formula work best.In this study, we estimate winning percentage in the Korean Pro-sports such as Pro-football and women s Pro-basketball. Two methods that relates winning percentage are considered. One is the Pythagorean method for relating points scored and allowed to wins and losses and the other is the Correlated Gaussian Method that relates winning percentage to points scored, points allowed, the standard deviations of points scored and allowed, and the correlation between points scored and allowed.In Conclusion, two methods are fairly good methods for Korean Pro-sports. Moreover, relationship between the number of wins and losses and the number of runs scored and number of runs allowed for these sports is similar to the that of baseball except difference of exponent of Pythagorean theorem in Korea.
