현대 도예의 집적과 반복에 관한 표현연구

국문 초록

추상표현주의 도자의 출현 이후 현대도예는 다양한 분파작용을 통해 표현의 범위를 확장시키고 공예적 속성에서 벗어나기에 이르렀다. 이러한 현상은 재료와 기술의 발달은 물론 작가 개개인의 사상과 자유로운 표현의지가 동시에 작용한 결과라고 해도 지나치지 않다. 아울러 도예 작품제작의 다양한 방식들이 기술과 기법으로 치부되는 것에서 나아가 방식 자체의 의미들을 재평가하게 되었다. 집적과 반복은 어떤 미술 분야를 막론하고 보편적으로 사용되는 조형 방식이다. 특히 도예의 경우 태생적으로 숙지되어 온 기술, 기법의 하나이지만 장르의 특성을 감안한다면 가치 있는 논제라고 판단하였다. 2장에서는 집적과 반복의 정의 및 해당사례를 제시하였다. 집적의 경우 대표적인 작가로 평가된 아르망의 작품에 함축된 내용들을 중심으로 조형표현의 당위성과 가능성을 고찰하였다. 또한 집적의 방식을 활용하는 이인숙의 작품을 인용하여 도자가 레디메이드 오브제와는 다른 재료적 특성을 가지고 있음을 확인하였다. 반복은 모두 배세진 등 7명의 작품을 인용하여 가시성과 비가시성으로 구분하였으며 전자는 형태와 크기 후자는 의식과 무의식으로 세부적으로 나누어 조형적 의미와 특징들을 서술하였다. 3장에서는 집적과 반복을 동시에 사용하는 영국작가 클레어 투미를 포함한 6명의 작품을 고찰하고 설치미술, 구상적 형식, 추상적 형식으로 구분 제시하였다. 이들의 작품은 우선 규모가 방대하고 집적과 반복의 방식을 복합적으로 사용하는 것은 물론 오랜 기간의 시행착오와 실험에 의한 결과물이라는데 의의가 있다. 결과적으로 본 연구는 현대도예 작품을 어떤 관점에서 조명해야 하는가가 과제로 남게 되었다. 기능을 전제로 하는 공예적 관점과 표현과 의미구조를 중시하는 미술적 관점은 분명히 다르기 때문이다. 집적과 반복이라는 일반적이고 보편화된 표현 방식을 도예 작품의 분석과 비평의 준거틀 화 할 수 있다면 또 다른 관점과 개념에 의한 연구도 가능하기 때문이다.

영문 초록

Since the advent of the abstract expressionist ceramic, modern ceramic art has expanded the scope of expression through various fractional processes and led to deviating from the craft properties. It is not too much to say that this phenomenon is the result of the development of materials and technology, as well as the simultaneous act of each artist ideas and free expression. In addition, various ways of making ceramic art pieces have gone from being dismissed as description and techniques to reevaluate the meanings of styles themselves. Aggregation and repetition are commonly used formative methods in any art field. In particular, it was one of the skills and techniques that had been naturally familiar with pottery, but it was judged to be a valuable topic considering the characteristics of the genre. Chapter 2 provides the definition of aggregation and repetition and the corresponding case. In case of aggregation, the appropriateness and potential of the formative expression were considered based on the implications of Arman s work, which was evaluated as a representative artist. It was also confirmed that the ceramic had different material properties from the ReadyMade Object by quoting Lee In-sook s work that used the method of aggregation. All seven works, including Bae Se-jin, were cited to distinguish between visible and invisible, while the former was divided into form and size, and the latter into consciousness and unconsciousness, describing the formative meaning and characteristics. In Chapter 3, the works of six artists, including British author Clare Twomey, who uses both separately analysis aggregation and repetition, were presented in installation art, conceptual form and abstract. Their work is meaningful in that it is a result of a long period of trial, error and experimentation, the large scale and the complex use of the method of aggregation and repetition. As a result, the question remains what point of view the modern ceramic works should be. This is because the craft perspective on the premise of function and the art view that values expression and semantic structure are clearly different. If you can paraphrase the analysis and criticism of ceramic works in general and universal expression methods of aggregation and repetition, you can study them by other perspectives and concepts.
