조선후기 연행록에서 북경 ‘西山’의 의미

국문 초록

이 논문은 조선 사절단의 北京 유람 공간 확장이 1780년 이후 淸朝의 사신 접대 의례에 생긴 변화와 맞물려 있음에 착안하여, 그 대표적인 공간으로 ‘西山’에 주목하였다. 북경의 서북쪽 교외에 위치한 서산은 金･元･明･淸代에 걸쳐 황실의 離宮이 조성되어 외부인의 출입을 엄격히 제한하던 구역이다. 그러나 1780년 열하사행과 1781년 동지사행에서 조선 사신이 乾隆 帝의 명에 따라 圓明園 연회에 참석한 뒤부터 燕行에서 공인된 탐방 공간이자 필수 유람 코스로 정착하였다. 북경의 여러 명승고적 가운데 18~19세기 연행록에서 가장 다채로운 기록을 담고 있는 장소가 바로 ‘서산’이다. 조선후기 연행록의 통시적인 흐름상에서 북경의 ‘서산’이라는 공간은, 18세기 말부터 19세기 말까지 집중적으로 등장한다는 점에서 해당 시기 연행록의 특화된 면모가 잘 드러나는 소재이다. 19세기 연행록의 특징으로 흔 히 거론되는 답습이나 재인용, 부연과 같은 관습적인 글쓰기 형태가 서산관련 기록에는 나타나지 않는다. 또한 對淸인식을 표출하는 장소로 서산을 적극 활용함으로써 저자의 독창적인 의론이 담겨 있다. 아울러 서산 유람이 보편화됨에 따라 북경성 북부 지역에 대한 인문지리 지식이 연행록에 대량으로 추가되었다. 18~19세기 조선 문인들이 북경에 대한 이해를 심화하는 데 서산 유람이 일정 부분 기여했음을 확인할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This paper focused on Xishan(西山), the representative visit place of Beijing, keeping in mind that extension of visit space of Joseon envoys is linked to the change on envoy’s reception ceremony of Qing Dynasty after 1780. Due to the creation of imperial palaces in Xishan since Jin Dynasty, visitors had limited access to Xishan, located in northwest of suburb in Beijing during Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty. However, since Joseon envoys participated in Yuanmingyuan(圓明園) party following the Emperor Qianlong(乾隆)’s order during traveling to Rehe(熱河) in 1780 and official embassy of annual tribute in 1781~1782, Xishan was settled in official visitor’s courses of Travel to Beijing. Among several attractions in Beijing, Xishan is the place that have various records in Yonhaengrok written in 18th and 19th centuries. Within diachronic flow of Yonhaengrok in the late of Joseon Dynasty, the place Xishan had been intensively visited during the late 18th and the late 19th centuries, showing individuality of Yonhaengrok during those periods. The customary type of imitation, recitation and amplification, known as common features of Yonhaengrok, are not appeared in the records regarding Xishan. The author used Xishan to express his thought towards Qing Dynasty hence the creative discussion is included. Furthermore, according to generalization of Xishan visit, anthropogeographical knowledge of northwest of Beijing could be added to Yonhaengrok in large quantities. It can be confirmed that Xishan visit contributed for Joseon literaries to improve understanding of Beijing in 18th and 19th centuries.
