This study was conducted to suggest a direction for the improvement of practical arts subject employment examination and its amendment system. To achieve this purpose, relevant literature was studied and analyzed, and the system and trends of employment examination for the practical arts subject were analyzed, problems were indicated, and corresponding improvement measures were sought. The improvement direction for the practical arts subject employment examination, as researched herein, is outlined as follows. 1) A prior review should be conducted to define what professionalism required of the practical arts subject is. 2) Practical arts employment examination should be closely linked with the curriculum of universities of education. 3) Test questions should take into account the ratio between subject-matter education and subject-matter contents. 4) Taking into account the characteristics and difficulty levels of test questions, the number of and score assignment for questions should be determined. The amendment system for practical arts employment examination suggested herein is as follows. 1) The category of test areas was divided into subject-matter education and subject-matter contents. Subject-matter education was sub-segmented to consist of understanding of practical arts education, curriculum of practical arts subject, practical arts teaching-learning methods, and evaluation of practical arts education. Subject-matter contents was sub-segmented to consist of home economics, technology, and agriculture-bio science. 2) A test making committee was suggested to consist of 1-2 people in subject-matter education, and 3 people in subject-matter contents. 3) For the number of questions, if a 5-item multiple choice is considered, ten questions would be appropriate. For score assignment, a method of assigning a 0.6-point score to each question was suggested, a method of assigning a 0.5-point score to each question was proposed, and a method of assigning a 1-point score to each question was put forth. 4) In consideration of an essay and written test system, a method of six score-assignment types was proposed. A further study is needed regarding a method of expanding the scope of practical arts subject employment examination, a method of operating a reviewing team comprised of field teachers, a method of faithfully reflecting the contents of the curriculum of elementary schools, a method of replacing a written test with academic records, a method of administering essay tests by group of several subjects, and a method of introducing an evaluation of practical abilities to the evaluation of the ability to conduct class.
