傳奇小說의 일상성과 내면응시를 통한 조선후기적 변주

국문 초록

조선조 500여 년의 역사 과정, 특히 문학적 측면의 도정을 일별할 때 사실주의와 현실주의의 강화를 주목할 수 있을 것이다. 서사문학은 그 대표적인 예에 속한다. 전기소설(傳奇小說)의 경우 17세기를 거치며 이전의 비현실적 공간인 異界 체험과 人鬼의 애정이라는 구도를 현실적 공간과 인물의 인과관계로 전환한 것이다. 그럼에도 이후 조선후기 전기소설은 비극적 결말을 통한 연애 주제의 양식적 특성을 상실한 것으로 평가되고 말았다. 하지만 19세기 작품인 〈포의교집(布衣交集)〉과 〈절화기담(折花奇談)〉은 현실 생활에 보다 밀착해 젊은 여인과 나이든 남자의 불륜적 애정 관계를 통해 조선후기적 변주를 보여주고 있다. 이 두 작품은 서울이라는 일상성을 극대화한 공간 설정에 성공적인 관심을 보여줌과 동시에, 남녀의 지난한 만남에 개입된 인간의 정욕을 내면응시를 통해 충실하게 살피고 있다. 전자는 조선중기 전기 양식이 이룬 성과를 보다 충실하게 구현한 성과이며, 후자는 인간의 욕망에 대한 긍정과 이에 대한 서사문학적 관심이 이루어 낸 조선후기적 현상이 반영된 사례이다. 분명 전기소설은 조선후기에 이르러 비극적 결말을 통한 주제구현의 문학성을 상당히 탈각하여 작품성은 물론 그 양식의 존폐 여부도 의심을 받는 상황이다. 하지만 조선후기 서사 문학은 남녀의 연애 주제를 중심에 놓은 경우 아직 전기 양식의 오래된 틀을 버리지 못하였으며, 우리는 그 안에서 일상성과 내면응시라는 새로운 변주를 이루고 있음을 확인할 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

When we investigate the historical course for around 500 years in the Chosun Dynasty, especially the path in terms of literature, we will able to pay attention to the fact that naturalism and realism remained strong. Epic literature is one of the typical examples. In the case of Cheongi-soseol(傳奇小說), going through the 17the century the structure of love of human ghosts and the experience of other world which is unrealistic space was transformed into realistic space and characters’ casual relationships. Nevertheless, the Cheongi-soseol(傳奇小說) in the late Chosun Dynasty were finally evaluated to lose stylistic characteristics of the romantic theme through tragic ending. However, Pouigyojip and Julhwagidam which are works in the 19th century reflect real life in great detail and show variants of the late Chosun Dynasty through inappropriate relations of the love affairs between a young woman and an old man. These two works not only show successful interest in setting up a space where dailiness of Seoul is maximized, but also investigate human carnal desires involved in hard and difficult meetings of males and females through introspection. The former is a successful result of truly realizing the outcome the Cheongi style achieved in the middle of the Chosun Dynasty, and the latter is a case to reflect affirmation of human desires and phenomena of the late Chosun dynasty made by interest of epic literature in them. Evidently, it is true that the Cheongi-soseol have got out of the literary nature of realizing themes through tragic ending in the late Chosun Dynasty to a significant level and it is doubtful whether the style in itself does exist or not as well as their artistic values. However, epic literature in the late Chosun Dynasty did not forsake an old frame of the Cheongi-soseol style, yet in the case that love affair themes between men and women are put on the center, and we need to confirm that the new variant of dailiness and introspection is shown inside of it.
