문화교차학적 관점에서의 내러티브 구조 재정립 논의

국문 초록

본 연구는 기존 예술 창작과 스토리텔링에서 활용되어 온 서사 구조를 문화교차학적 관점에서 재해석하고, 그 핵심으로 감정과학(Science of Feelings)의 철학을 적용하여 새로운 내러티브 서사 구조를 제시하고자 한다. 기존의 전통적인 서사학은 사건과 인과를 중심으로 전개되는 선형 구조, 그리고 시간의 순서나 인과에 구애받지 않는 비선형 서사를 중심으로 다뤄왔다. 하지만 기존의 서사들을 다루는 것에 있어서 감정의 존재론적 구조를 충분히 포착하지 못했다는 한계를 지닌다. 감정은 단순히 사건을 유발하는 심리적 요인을 넘어, 몸과 마음의 변화 속에서 존재의 진실을 드러내는 근원적이자 다층적인 요인이다. 따라서 예술 창작과 스토리텔링에 활용되는 서사 구조는 감정의 인식과 존재의 흐름에 대한 이해에서부터 다시 정립되어야 한다. 이를 위해 연구자는 이전의 감정과학 연구2)에서 구축한 네 가지 축인 기(⼰, 심(⼼, 애(愛), 학(學)을 바탕으로 내러티브 서사 구조를 철학적으로 분석, 탐구하고자 했다. 먼저 기존의 선형, 비선형 서사를 감정과학 철학에 기초해 재해석했다. 또한, 문화교차학적 관점을 담아 확장한 집단 서사와 나선형 서사 구조를 더함으로써 이전 연구의 네 가지 틀과 일치하는 총 네 가지 서사 구조를 재정립했다. 재정립한 구조는 다음과 같다. 첫 번째, 선형 서사는 감정의 인과적 전개를 따르며 그 안에서 배움의 즐거움을 깨닫는 학습형 구조이다. 두 번째 비선형 서사는 시간의 순서를 해체하여 감정의 순간적 진실을 찾아가는 탐색형 구조이다. 세 번째, 집단 서사는 ‘나’에서 ‘너’로 이어지며, 더 나아가 ‘우리’로 확장되는 감정 교차를 중심으로 하는 관계형 구조이다. 네 번째, 나선형 서사는 감정의 순환 속에서 그 존재를 더욱 자명하게 비춰내는 성장형 구조이다. 이는 선형 서사, 비선형 서사, 집단 서사를 포괄한다. 위 네 가지의 서사 구조는 감정을 존재의 본질로 인식하고 이를 밝혀나가는 문화교차학적 관점의 핵심 사유인 감정과학 철학을 구체적 서사의 모델로 확장한 것이다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 서사 구조 재정립을 통해 예술 창작, 문화콘텐츠, 교육, 연구 등의 다양한 분야에서 활용할 수 있는 감정 중심 서사 분석과 창작의 새로운 방법론을 제시하며, 감정과 존재, 스토리텔링의 관계를 재정립하는 학문적 토대를 마련하였다.

영문 초록

This study reinterprets conventional narrative structures used in artistic creation and storytelling from the perspective of Xcultural Studies and proposes a newly conceptualized framework grounded in the philosophy of the Science of Feelings. Traditional narrative theory has primarily examined linear structures based on causality and temporal progression, as well as nonlinear structures that deviate from chronological order. However, these approaches have not adequately captured the ontological structure of emotions. Emotions are not merely psychological triggers of events; they are fundamental and multilayered movements within the body and mind that reveal the truth of human existence. Therefore, narrative structures in artistic and storytelling practices must be reconsidered from a perspective that recognizes the epistemic and existential flow of emotions. To address this need, the study employs four axes of emotional structure presented in the researcher’s previous work (己, 心, 愛, and 學). These axes serve as philosophical foundations for reconstructing narrative structures. Based on this framework, linear and nonlinear narratives are reinterpreted through the lens of the Science of Feelings. In addition, two new structures, the Affect-Expansive Narrative and the Spiral Narrative, are proposed from an Xcultural perspective. As a result, a total of four narrative structures are presented in alignment with the four axes of emotion. The reconstructed structures are organized as follows. First, the linear narrative is reframed as a learning-oriented structure in which emotions arise within the body and unfold through temporal causality, eventually leading to experiential insight and joy. Second, the nonlinear narrative is reinterpreted as an exploratory structure that seeks the momentary truth of emotion through layered and overlapping perceptual flows that transcend chronological order. Third, the Affect-Expansive Narrative is defined as a relational structure in which emotions extend from ‘me’ to ‘you’ and subsequently to ‘we’, forming shared meaning through emotional crossing and resonance. Fourth, the spiral narrative is understood as a developmental structure in which emotions deepen and expand as they repeatedly pass through the cycle of emergence, manifestation, expansion, and return. Collectively, these four models reveal the ontological dynamics of emotion and operate as complementary narrative forms rather than mutually exclusive categories. Through this philosophical reinterpretation and reconstruction, the study provides a refined theoretical framework for understanding the relationship between emotions and narrative structure. From an Xcultural perspective, the work also demonstrates meaningful convergence between Eastern and Western modes of thought through the shared field of emotional ontology. In practical terms, the proposed models offer methodological possibilities for artistic creation, cultural content analysis, education, and interdisciplinary research. Artists can use this framework to reflect on the emotional trajectories embedded in their works, and researchers can analyze narratives not solely through event-driven structures but by tracing emotional flows. Moreover, these models can be applied to emerging media environments such as digital art and interactive storytelling, where emotion functions as a central organizing principle.
