또래애착과 부모의 양육방식이 아동의 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향: 초등학생과 중학생의 비교

국문 초록

본 연구는 아동의 발달단계에 따라 또래와 부모가 학교생활적응에 미치는 영향에 차이를 보이는지 이해하고자 하였다. 또래의 영향은 또래와 긴밀한 의사소통과 신뢰관계를 형성하는 애착정도를 측정하였고, 부모의 영향은 합리적으로 자녀의 일상생활을 지도감독하는 긍정적 양육방식, 과잉기대나 간섭을 비일관적으로 양육하는 부정적 방식으로 측정하였으며, 또래와 부모의 영향이 초등학생과 중학생에게서 어떻게 다르게 나타나는지 분석하였다. 분석에는 2010년부터 3년 동안 수집된 한국아동·청소년패널의 초등학교 4학년 패널 2,168명과 중학교 1학년 패널 2,277명의 자료가 사용되었다. 다중회귀분석을 실시한 결과, 또래애착은 초등학교와 중학교에서 모두 유의미하게 학교생활적응에 긍정적 영향을 주는 것으로 분석되었다. 부모의 양육방식이 학교생활에 미치는 영향력은 학교급에 따라 차이를 보였는데, 합리적 지도감독은 학교생활적응을 높이는데 초등학교와 중학교에서 모두 유의미하게 중요하였지만, 비일관적 과잉기대나 간섭은 초등학생에게서만 유의미하였고, 중학생의 학교생활적응에는 영향을 주지 않았다. 이러한 연구 결과는 아동의 발달단계에 따라 부모가 주의해야 할 양육의 초점이 달라져야 함을 시사하며, 부모교육 및 가족개입 프로그램은 아동의 발달단계에 맞추어 설계되어야 함을 보여준다.

영문 초록

This study sought to understand whether the influences of peers and parents on children’s school adjustment differ across developmental stages. Peer influence was measured by the level of attachment, reflecting the degree of close communication and trust formed with peers. Parental influence was assessed in two dimensions: a positive parenting style, defined as rational guidance and supervision of children’s daily lives, and a negative parenting style, characterized by inconsistent control, excessive expectations, and interference. Using data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (2010–2012), this study analyzed 2,168 fourth-grade elementary students and 2,277 first-grade middle school students. Multiple regression analyses revealed that peer attachment had a significant and positive effect on school adjustment in both elementary and middle school students. The effects of parenting styles differed by school level: rational supervision was significantly associated with better school adjustment at both levels, whereas inconsistent and overcontrolling parenting was significant only among elementary school students and was not associated with middle school students’ adjustment. These findings suggest that the focus of parental guidance should be adjusted according to children’s developmental stages. Further, this study undersocres the need for developmentally sensitive parent education and family intervention programs that foster children’s positive school adjustment.
