국문 초록

본 연구는 사별을 겪은 클라이언트 지원체계 마련을 위한 기초 연구로써 사별 후 심리적 적응을 이해하기 위한 이론적 틀인 이중과정모형을 소개하고, 이중과정모형의 경험적 검증을 위한 파일럿 연구의 결과를 보고한다. 이중과정모형에 따라 균형적 대처를 한 그룹이 비균형적 대처를 한 그룹에 비해 더 안정적인 심리적 결과를 보일 것이라는 가설을 검증했다. 연구는 Y시 S호스피스 시설에서 운영하는 사별 치유 프로그램 참가자 65명을 대상으로 진행되었으며, 상실 관련 대처와 회복 관련 대처의 수행 여부에 따라 세 집단(균형, 비균형, 무대처)으로 분류하였다. 종속변수로는 복잡성비애와 우울증상을 설정하고, 연령·성별·사별 후 경과시간을 공변량으로 통제한 공분산분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과, 균형 그룹이 비균형 그룹에 비해 오히려 더 높은 복잡성비애와 우울증상을 나타냈다. 사별을 경험한 클라이언트를 위한 실천의 이론적 틀로써 이중과정모형이 제공하는 유익과 함께, 실제 적용 시 고려해야 할 해석의 정교화 및 개선점에 관해 논의하였다.

영문 초록

A foundational investigation is performed in this study to develop a support system for clients who have experienced bereavement. In particular, the dual-process model (DPM) is introduced as a theoretical framework for understanding psychological adjustment following loss, and the findings of a pilot study that empirically tests the model are presented. The study hypothesizes that individuals who engage in balanced coping exhibits more stable psychological outcomes compared with those with unbalanced coping. A total of 65 individuals participated in a bereavement healing program operated by a hospice center in Y City. Based on their engagement in loss-oriented and restoration-oriented coping strategies, they were classified into three groups, i.e., balanced, unbalanced, and inactive. The dependent variables were complicated grief and depressive symptoms. An analysis of covariance was conducted by controlling for age, gender, and time since loss. Contrary to the hypothesis, the balanced coping group reported higher levels of complicated grief and depressive symptoms than the unbalanced group. This study discusses the implications of the DPM as a theoretical foundation for practice with bereaved clients. The findings highlight the necessity for nuanced interpretation and refinement when applying the model in real-world settings.
