국문 초록

이 연구에서는 세계가치관 6차 조사 자료를 활용하여 OECD 15개 국가를 대상으로 생활만족과 생활만족 불평등에 영향을 미치는 요인이 무엇인지 규명하고자 하였다. 생활만족 불평등은 생활만족의 분산을 이용하여 측정하였다. 기존 생활만족에 관한 비교연구에서는 주로 국가 간 생활만족 수준의 격차에 영향을 미치는 요인을 밝히는데 초점을 맞추었다. 그러나 소득 수준뿐만 아니라 소득 불평등이 중요한 정책적 관심의 대상이 되는 것처럼 생활만족의 정도가 얼마나 평등하게 분포되었는지, 생활만족 불평등에도 주목할 필요가 있다. 이 연구에서는 이분산회귀분석을 통해 생활만족 수준과 생활만족 불평등에 영향을 미치는 요인을 동시에 분석하였다. 분석결과, 개인, 가족, 사회적 관계의 특성이 생활만족 수준과 생활만족 불평등에 영향을 미쳤다. 건강하고, 소득수준이 높은 집단의 생활만족도가 높았다. 이 집단들은 높은 수준의 생활만족도를 큰 편차없이 유사하게 경험하였다. 타인에 대한 신뢰가 높고, 공정한 대우를 받고, 의사결정의 자율성이 높고, 자신의 삶에 대한 통제력이 높을수록 생활만족도가 높았다. 이러한 집단 내에서는 생활만족 불평등 정도도 낮았다. 이 연구에서는 정부가 국민의 생활만족도를 증진하고, 동시에 생활만족 불평등을 완화할 수 있는 정책을 추진할 필요성을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

Using on the sixth wave of the World Values Survey, this study examines the nature of life-satisfaction inequality measured by the variance of life satisfaction and related factors in 15 OECD countries. The manner by which life satisfaction is equally distributed within a country should be analyzed due to its importance. By performing heteroskedastic regression analysis, this study determines factors that are associated with the level and inequality of life satisfaction. The results indicate that the characteristics of individual, family, and social relationships perceived by individuals are related to the level and inequality of life satisfaction. Healthy people and those with high incomes experience higher levels of life satisfaction and lower levels of life-satisfaction inequality. People who evaluate the importance of family highly show high levels of life satisfaction and low levels of life-satisfaction inequality. People who perceive that (i) they trust others, (ii) others attempt to treat them fairly, and (iii) they have free choice and control over their lives are more likely to be satisfied with their lives. Moreover, they tend to exhibit low levels of life-satisfaction inequality. Governments should strive to reduce the inequality of life satisfaction while enhancing the level of life satisfaction.
