The purpose of this study is to analyze the optimal screening environment in a digital cinema, focusing on Resolution, Screening distance and Screen size. It used the quantitative analysis method to give an realistic aspect in screening in a digital cinema. The participants of this study were strictly restrained by 22 different abundantly experienced directors on service. For this study, 2K and 4K DCP were each produced and each DCP was shown to the analysts with a certain amount of time apart, followed with a survey. As to the conclusions of the experiment, firstly, the participants distinguished the differences in resolution of each DCP and the visual satisfaction was generally high. Second, depending on the screening distance it showed a difference between 2K and 4K. Also as the resolution improved, the screening distance was shortened. Third, the larger the screen size, the screening distance was shortened to naturally increase the horizontal view angle of the audience. Which also increased the satisfaction of the viewer. In conclusion, in a digital cinema, the three factors, resolution, screening distance and screen size, are critical in inventing the best picture quality. This study has its value, in that the recipients were a group of experts who work as directors on service. However, whether the results can be applied to general cinemas and audiences, is still something that will need further research with not only heavy users; people who view a movie more than once a month, but every movie consumers. Further on, as to the limitations of this study, although this research was executed through a quantitative analysis the selected group was small. Objectively the screening distance had a major impact on the resolution, however this research will need to execute further experiments on subjective factors such as sound effects.
