저시력 유아 가족의 가족중심 시기능 훈련 프로그램 참여 경험과 의미에 관한 질적 사례연구

국문 초록

연구 목적: 이 연구는 저시력 유아 가족의 가족중심 시기능 훈련에 참여 경험과 그 경험의 의미를 심층적으로 탐색한 질적 사례연구이다. 연구 방법: 이를 위해 시기능 훈련에 참여하는 저시력 유아와 유아의 어머니 및 유아의 비장애 형제를 연구 참여자로 선정하였다. 연구는 2023년 7월부터 2024년 1월까지 약 7개월간 진행하였으며, 이 기간 동안 시기능 훈련 20회와 어머니를 대상으로 면담을 5회 진행해 자료를 수집하고 귀납적 범주 분석을 통해 자료를분석하였다. 연구 결과: 연구를 진행한 결과, ‘흐릿한 초점-혼란 속에서 방황하기’, ‘초점을 맞추며-자녀를 선명하게 보기’, ‘함께 초점 맞추기-가족이 함께 맞추는 시선’, ‘확장된 초점-미래를 내다보는 변화’, ‘초점이 맞춰지는 순간-가족의 정서적 안정’이라는 다섯 가지 범주를 도출할 수 있었다. 이 과정에서 시기능 훈련은 단순히 저시력 유아의 시기능 향상을 넘어서, 부모의 인식 전환과 정서적 회복, 형제의 조력자 역할 정립, 가족 간 상호작용의 긍정적 변화를 유도하는 계기가 되었음을 발견할 수 있었다. 결론: 이 연구는 시기능 훈련이 저시력 유아 개인의 기능적 향상에 국한되는 것이 아니라, 가족 전체의 인식·정서·실천 전반의 변화를 가져올 수 있음을 조명함으로써 가족중심 중재의 새로운 가능성을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

Purpose: This qualitative case study explored the experiences and meanings of a family participating in a family-centered visual function training program for a young child with low vision. Method: The participants included one young child with low vision, the child’s mother, and the child’s sibling without disabilities. The study was conducted over a period of approximately seven months, from July 2023 to January 2024. Data were collected through 20 visual function training sessions and five in-depth interviews with the mother and sibling, and were analyzed using inductive categorical analysis. Results: Five categories were identified: “Blurred Focus – Wandering in Confusion,” “Sharpening Focus – Seeing the Child Clearly,” “Focusing Together – A Family’s Shared Gaze,” “Expanded Focus – Anticipating Future Changes,” and “The Moment of Focus – Emotional Stability within the Family.” The findings indicate that visual function training not only supported improvements in the child’s use of residual vision, but also promoted parental perceptual shifts, emotional healing, the sibling’s supportive role, and positive changes in family interactions. Conclusion: This study highlights that visual function training can bring about not only functional improvements for child with low vision but also comprehensive changes in the perceptions, emotions, and practices of her family, thereby suggesting new possibilities for family-centered interventions.
