The Potential Anti-Cancer Mechanisms of Sanguisorbae Radix Extract on AGS Gastric Cancer Cell

Background: This study investigated the anticancer effects of Sanguisorbae Radix extract (SRE) on gastric adenocarcinoma cells (AGS). The aim was to evaluate its potential to inhibit cell proliferation and regulate oncogenic gene expression, providing foundational data for the use of SRE in gastric cancer therapy. Methods: AGS cells were exposed to various concentrations of SRE, and their viability was determined using the WST assay. Quantitative PCR was employed to measure the expression levels of key oncogenes (C-myc, KRAS, BCL2, JAK2). Additionally, the impact of SRE on inflammation-related gene expression was analyzed across different concentrations to evaluate dose-dependent effects. Results: SRE treatment led to a marked, concentration-dependent reduction in AGS cell viability. The extract also suppressed the expression of oncogenic genes, highlighting its potential to inhibit tumor-promoting pathways. Moreover, inflammation-related gene expression was significantly decreased, indicating that SRE may play a role in reducing tumor-associated inflammation. Conclusion: Sanguisorbae Radix extract exhibits anticancer effects on AGS gastric cancer cells by inhibiting proliferation and suppressing oncogenic and inflammation-related gene expression. These findings suggest the potential of SRE as a therapeutic agent for gastric cancer, warranting further investigation.
