국문 초록

Background: We aim to identify the impact of clinical practice on the level of self-competence according to the core and detailed competencies of dental hygienists among 4th-year students who completed the clinical practice course in the Department of Dental Hygiene at E University. Methods: It was conducted at the Department of Dental Hygiene at E University, located in the metropolitan area, for approximately 4 months from March to June 2024. The purpose and intent were explained to 45 fourth-year students who completed the clinical practice course, and the analysis was conducted on those who agreed. The core and detailed competencies of the students were compared and analyzed before and after the clinical practice. Results: As a result of comparing pre- and post-clinical practice, the performance levels in all eight core competencies improved after practice, with six showing statistically significant improvements (p<0.05). Among the detailed competencies within each core competency, performance improved in 50 out of 52 items, with 30 showing statistically significant differences (p<0.05). Conclusion: Clinical practice was effective in improving core and detailed competencies as a dental hygienist. In future studies, if systematic education and supplementation are provided for competencies that have relatively high scores according to the assessed competency level, it is thought that this will help to improve the overall core competencies in a balanced manner.
