국문 초록

전장 화재는 군사작전 중 의도되거나 비의도적으로 발생하는 불가피한 현상으로, 현대전의 밀집된 가연성 환경으로 인해 그 위험성이 극대화되고 전투력 발휘를 제한하는 등 심각한 결과를 초래한다. 현재 우리 군은 이에 대한 인식과 대비태세가 매우 미흡한 실정이다. 본 연구는 이러한 문제의식을 바탕으로 전장 화재의 개념을 명확히 정의하고 그 유형을 체계적으로 분류한다. 또한, 국내외 주요 전장 화재사례를 분석하여 그 실제적인 위협과 파급 효과를 제시한다. 이를 통해 우리 군의 현행 전장 화재 대비 실태(교리, 작전계획, 조직 및 지휘체계, 물자 및 장비, 교육훈련)를 비판적으로 진단하고, 실효적인 대응 방안과 보완 과제를 제언한다. 나아가 전장 화재를 단순히 위험 요소로만 인식하는 것을 넘어, 전술적 활용 가능성까지 모색함으로써 전장 화재에 대한 포괄적인 이해와 체계적인 대응의 필요성을 강조한다. 궁극적으로 본 연구는 이러한 전략적 제언을 통해 우리 군의 군사대비태세 및 작전 회복 탄력성을 강화하고, 미래 군사작전의 효과성과 생존성 향상에 기여하는 것을 목표로 한다.

영문 초록

Battlefield fires are an unavoidable phenomenon that occurs intentionally or unintentionally during military operations. Their danger is greatly amplified by the dense, flammable environments of modern warfare, resulting in severe consequences such as restricted combat power. Despite these clear threats, the Republic of Korea Armed Forces currently possess a severely inadequate understanding and preparedness for battlefield fires. Based on this critical awareness, this study aims to clearly define the concept of battlefield fires and systematically classify their types. It also analyzes major domestic and international battlefield fire incidents, illustrating their real threats and ripple effects. Through this, the research critically diagnoses the current state of the ROK Armed Forces' preparedness for battlefield fires across various aspects: doctrine, operational planning, organizational and command systems, materiel and equipment, and education and training. It then proposes effective countermeasures and supplementary tasks. Furthermore, by exploring the tactical utility of battlefield fires beyond their perception as mere hazards, the study emphasizes the necessity of a comprehensive understanding and systematic response. Ultimately, this research aims to enhance the effectiveness and survivability of future military operations by strengthening the ROK Armed Forces' military readiness and operational resilience through these strategic recommendations.
