국문 초록

연구목적: 본 연구는 국내 공교육 현장에서 IB 프로그램을 도입한 학교를 대상으로, 후보학교 단계부터 공식 인증에 이르기까지 교사들의 인식과 행동이 어떻게 변화하는지 분석하는 것을 목적으로 하고 있다. 연구방법: 기존에 개발된 교사 분석 도구들을 활용하여 1) 인식론적 신념, 2) 직무 만족도, 3) 교사 효능감, 4) 학생 학습능력에 대한 인식, 5) 교육활동 측면에서, IB 후보학교 초기인 1차년도와 IB 인증 후 또는 인증이 임박한 2차년도의 차이를 초⋅중⋅고 4개 학교 교사 43명의 동일집단을 대상으로 추적 비교 분석하였다. 연구결과: 2차년도 교사들은 1차년도에 비해 객관주의에서 구성주의로 인식론적 신념이 유의하게 이동하였고, 교사 효능감이 향상됐으며, 학생들의 수용적, 비판적, 창의적 학습 능력이 향상되었다고 인식했고, 수업과 평가 혁신에 적극적으로 참여하고 교육활동을 다변화하는 등 전반적으로 긍정적인 향상이 뚜렷하게 나타났다. 다만 직무 만족도에서 과업 스트레스가 증가했는데, 스트레스 원인의 우선순위가 수업 외적인 이유에서 수업과 직결된 이유로 바뀐 것으로 나타났다. 학술적 기여: 국내 최초로 지정된 IB 학교들을 대상으로 교사 변화를 분석한 본 연구는 앞으로 IB 프로그램을 도입하려는 전국의 학교와 교사들에게 나타날 수 있는 불필요한 오해와 우려를 해소하고 현장에서의 다양한 문제를 해결하는데 실증 근거 자료를 제공할 것으로 기대된다.

영문 초록

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the changes in teachers’ perceptions and behaviors before and after IB adoption during the period from IB candidate schools to IB authorized schools introduced in South Korea's public education system. Methods: Employing established instruments for teacher analysis, the study conducted a longitudinal comparative analysis of a matched sample of 43 teachers from four elementary, middle, and high schools. The analysis focused on five dimensions: (1) epistemological beliefs, (2) job satisfaction, (3) teacher self-efficacy, (4) perceptions of student learning competencies, and (5) instructional practices. Results: The findings revealed that, in the second year—when schools were either authorized or close to authorization— teachers demonstrated a significant epistemological shift from objectivism to constructivism, reported enhanced teaching efficacy, and perceived notable improvements in students’ receptive, critical, and creative learning abilities. Additionally, teachers actively engaged in instructional and assessment innovations, diversifying their pedagogical practices, reflecting an overall improvement. However, the study identified a notable increase in job stress but there was a shift in the reasons for job stress, indicating that factors directly related to teaching gained priority over external non-essential factors. Contributions: This study, which analyzes teacher transformations within the first IB public schools in South Korea, is expected to meaningfully contribute as empirical evidence to dispel unnecessary misunderstandings and concerns among schools and teachers nationwide contemplating the adoption of IB programs, thereby addressing the multifaceted challenges encountered in the field.
