The Effect of Design Thinking-Based Team Problem Solving for Pre-Service Teachers’ Creative Confidence and Teaching Efficacy

국문 초록

This study aimed to examine the impact of a team-based problem-solving program grounded in design thinking on pre-service teachers’ creative confidence and teaching efficacy. The data were collected during the fall semester of 2022. The participants were instructed by a design thinking problem-solving module developed by the research team, and completed pre- and post-tests of creative confidence and teaching efficacy before and after the module instruction. The final dataset comprised 64 participants from three universities (A, B, and C) for the Creative Confidence measure, and 56 participants from two universities (A and B) for the Teaching Self-Efficacy measure, all of whom completed both tests. No data were missing from the dataset, and all surveys were conducted online. The results of the study are as follows. First, with regard to the effectiveness of the Team-based Design Thinking in Problem Solving (TbDTP) model, pre-service teachers who participated in the program demonstrated increased creative confidence and teaching self-efficacy. Second, there were no statistically significant differences in score increases across university groups, indicating a consistent effect of the program across different institutions. However, the relatively small sample size limits the generalizability of the findings. Moreover, although all three groups (two Korean universities and one American university) responded to the Creative Confidence questionnaire, participants from the American university did not respond to the Teaching Self-Efficacy questionnaire, which may limit the interpretability and consistency of the results. Overall, the study suggests that the TbDTP program is a useful tool for fostering creative capabilities in design and technology education and holds potential for enhancing the teaching efficacy of pre-service teachers.

영문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 디자인씽킹 기반 팀 문제 해결 프로그램이 프로젝트에 참여한 학생들의 창의적 자신감과 교수 효능감에 미치는 영향을 조사하는 것이다. 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위한 첫 번째 연구 질문은 ‘디자인씽킹 기반 팀 문제 해결 프로그램에 참여한 후 학생들의 창의적 자신감과 교수 효능감이 증가했는가’ 이었다. 그리고 두 번째 질문은 ‘학생들의 창의적 자신감과 교수 효능감이 그룹에 따라 다르게 증가하거나 감소했는가’ 하는 것이었다. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 디자인씽킹 기반 팀 문제 해결(DTbTPS) 모델의 효과성과 관련하여, 프로그램에 참여한 예비교사들은 창의적 자신감과 교수 자기효능감이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 참여한 예비교사 모두 대학 그룹에 관계 없이 점수 증가에 통계적으로 유의미한 차이가 없었는데, 이는 그룹 간에 일관된 효과를 뒷받침한다. 그러나 결과를 모든 사례로 일반화하기에는 표본 크기가 비교적 작았다. 또한 세 그룹(한국 대학 2개와 미국 대학 1개) 모두 창의적 자신감 설문 조사에 응답했지만, 한 그룹(미국 대학 그룹)의 참여자는 자기효능감 설문 조사에 응답하지 않아 결과의 일관성에 영향을 미칠 수 있다. 이 연구를 통해 기 개발된 디자인씽킹 기반 팀 문제 해결(DTbTPS) 프로그램이 디자인 및 기술 교육에서 학생들의 창의적 역량을 평가하는 데 유용하며 예비교사들의 교수 효능감을 향상시키는 데 효과적인 도구가 될 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.
