다문화교육 질적 연구의 동향과 과제

국문 초록

이 연구는 국내 다문화교육 분야의 질적 연구 동향을 분석하고 향후 연구 방향과 과제를 제안하기 위한 것이다. 이를 위해 2003년부터 2020년까지 다문화교육, 질적 연구 및 사회과교육 분야의 대표적인 학술지 4개에 실린 논문 125편을 크게 연구 영역, 연구 참여자, 연구 방법 및 연구 패러다임을 중심으로 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 다문화교육의 연구 영역 중에서 인종·민족 영역에 대한 연구가 대부분을 차지하였으며, 특히 결혼이주 가족구성원 관련 연구가 주를 이루는 것으로 나타났다. 연구 참여자의 측면에서는 학생 관련 연구가 가장 많고 그중에서도 대학생 이상 성인과 초등학생의 연구가 주를 이루었다. 연구 방법으로는 일반적 질적 연구가 가장 많이 이루어졌으며, 자료 수집 방법으로는 심층면담이 가장 활발하게 활용되었다. 연구 패러다임의 측면에서는 다문화교육 관점이 명확하게 드러나지 않는 연구들이 많았고, 그다음 다원주의나 동화주의 관점을 반영한 연구들이 발견되었다. 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 다문화교육 질적 연구의 영역 및 참여자 확장, 질적 연구 방법의 다양성 및 엄밀성 제고, 그리고 연구 관점의 명료화와 관련된 시사점을 제시하였다. This study aims to analyze qualitative research trends in the field of multicultural education and to suggest future research directions. To this end, 125 articles published in four journals from 2003 to 2020 were analyzed, focusing on research areas, participants, methods, and research paradigms. The main results are as follows: First, race and ethnicity was the most frequently studied research area. Second, most of the studies were conducted on adult students and elementary school students. Third, among the research methods, basic qualitative studies were conducted the most, and the in-depth interview was the most frequently used method in the process of data collection. Lastly, studies that did not clearly reveal the perspective of multicultural education were the most followed by studies that reflected the perspective of pluralism or assimilationism. Based on these findings, implications related to the expansion of qualitative research areas and participants in multicultural education, enhancement of diversity and validity of qualitative research methods, and clarification of research perspectives were presented.
