국문 초록

이 연구는 중등 예비교사의 교직 전문성 발달 양상을 심층 동기, 교과교육학 지식, 내적 비전이라는 세 범주에 초점을 두고 질적으로 탐구함으로써, 중등 교사양성교육의 실제를 이해하고 개선 방향을 모색하는 데에 그 목적이 있다. 이러한 포괄적 관심 하에서 본 연구의 범위는 영어교육전공 사례로 한정하고, 비수도권 지역의 사범대학 영어교육과 2학년과 3학년 학생들을 연구참여자로 선정하여, 2004년 4월부터 2005년 7월 사이에 기초면담과 심층면담을 통한 질적사례 연구를 수행하였다. 먼저 선행 연구 고찰을 토대로 본 연구의 이론적 틀을 구성하는 주요 개념의 의미를 설명하고, 연구방법 및 절차를 기술하였다. 다음으로 연구참여자들의 이야기를 종합하여 교직에의 동기, 영어 교과교육 관련 지식, 교사로서의 삶에 대한 비전이 형성·변화해가는 복합적 양상과 주요 패턴의 의미를 해석하였다. 이어 본질적 동기, 발생적 동기, 비본질적 동기의 수준으로 각각 특징적 면모를 보여주는 연구참여자 세 명의 사례를 그려내고, 영어과 예비교사의 학업과 삶의 모습을 요약하면서 사범대학의 교사교육 개선을 위해 주는 시사점을 제안하였다. Reflecting upon the limits and possibilities of teacher education today, this study explores qualitatively the ways in which pre-service secondary teachers prepare themselves for a teaching career in a teachers college. We focus on the formation of deep motivation, pedagogical content knowledge, and inner vision, which are regarded as essential elements for the professional development of high-quality teachers. Based on the essentialist methodology in qualitative research, we selected the participants among sophomore and junior undergraduate students who are English education majors, and conducted in-depth interviews in April 2004 and July 2005. The major discussion of this study consists of the analyses and interpretations of the qualitative data, which help us understand the pre-service teachers' subjective experience. To begin with, we explain the theoretical framework by elaborating the conceptual meanings and functions of the three essential categories and present the method and procedure of this study. In the first part of our major discussion, we analyze the characteristic ways in which pre-service teachers' experience is either enhanced or discouraged with respect to deep motivation, pedagogic content knowledge, and inner vision. In the second part, we present three portraits of pre-service teachers' lives, which represent typical cases of intrinsic, generative and extrinsic motivation. Finally, summing up pre-service teachers' experience and their changing visions, we discuss the implications for the improvement of the education program for teachers.
