발달장애인 리더십 개발과정과 경험에 관한 내러티브 탐구

국문 초록

본 연구는 발달장애인자립생활센터의 대표로 일하고 있는 두 발달장애인의 이야기를 리더십 개발과정과 경험을 중심으로 내러티브-생애사 분석하였다. 두 연구참여자는 어린 시절 보육원 생활, 병원 장기 입원으로 그동안 말하지 못한 이야기를 꺼내놓았고, 자라온 배경은 달랐으나 두려움과 안도감이 교차하는 장애진단을 받으며 발달장애인으로 살아가게 되었다. 이들은 공적서비스를 통해 자신의 장애를 수용하기 시작했고, 장애인복지시설 교육프로그램, 발달장애인 공동체모임, 지원전문가를 통해 리더십을 학습해나갔다. 이후 주도적으로 새로운 과제에 도전하며 성장하기 위해 노력했으며 리더로서 영향력을 넓혀가기 시작하였다. 두 참여자는 발달장애인 자립생활센터 대표로 선임된 후, 새로운 과업 앞에 막중한 책임감과 부담감을 느끼면서도 그 안에서 꿈을 안고 걸어가는 성숙의 길을 개척해가고 있었다. 이 같은 발달장애인 리더십 개발과정과 경험은 장애인 당사자주의, 인프라 확대와 관련이 있으며 개인의 성장 의지와 자신감이 추동력이 되었음을 알 수 있었다. 이와 같은 연구결과를 바탕으로 발달장애인의 리더십 개발에 대한 방안을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

In this narrative-biographical study, we analyzed the stories of two individuals with a developmental disabilities who were working as representatives of independent living centers for people with developmental disabilities. The study focus was their leadership development process and experiences. The two participants revealed stories that they had never shared before, due to their childhood experiences in an orphanage and long hospital stays. Despite their different upbringings, both were diagnosed with a disability in their early 20s, which brought them mixed feelings of fear and relief. Since then, they have been living with a developmental disability. They accepted their disabilities through public services, participation in educational programs at welfare facilities for the disabled, developmental disability community meetings, and learning leadership through support specialists. Subsequently, they actively challenged new tasks to grow and began to expand their influence as leaders. After being appointed as representatives of the ‘Independent Living Center for People with Developmental Disabilities’, the two participants felt a tremendous sense of responsibility in the face of new challenges, but they demonstrated a mature journey, walking with their dreams in mind. Study findings indicated that the leadership development of people with developmental disabilities is related to the current emphasis on realizing the rights of persons with disabilities and the expansion of infrastructures. Furthermore, it is driven by individual will and confidence in one’s growth. Based on these findings, suggestions have been made for developing leadership in people with developmental disabilities.
