국문 초록

이 논문은 모성 발달에 기저하고 있는 역동을 대상관계 이론가인 Mahler와 여성주의 정신분석학자 Chodorow의 관점을 적용하여 탐구하고, 기독교 상담학적 함의를살펴보는 것에 목적을 둔다. Mahler가 관계적 존재로서 유아의 발달 과정을 ‘심리적 탄생’ 과정으로 본 것과 같이, 이 과정은 또한 어머니로서의 ‘심리적 탄생’ 과정이기도 하다. 자녀가 어머니와의 관계에서 분리–개별화를 이루어 가듯이 어머니역시 자녀와의 관계에서 분리–개별화를 이루어 간다. 또한 어머니가 경험하는 정체성은 Chodorow가 설명하는 이중적 동일시 기제에 의해 형성된 정체성으로 설명할 수 있다. 즉, 원가족 부모의 자녀로서의 정체성과, 자녀의 어머니로서의 정체성이 서로 영향을 주기 때문에 건강한 혹은 불건강한 모성발달이 일어날 수 있다. 결론적으로, 분리–개별화와 이중 정체성 개념에 기초한 모성발달에 대한 설명은 원가족과의 관계에서 분리–개별화를 제대로 이루지 못한 채로 어머니가 된 여성도자녀로부터 분리–개별화를 건강하게 해내는 어머니로의 성장이 가능함을 보여 준다는 점에서 임상적으로 의미가 있다. 본 연구의 결과를 바탕으로, 기독교상담에주는 시사점을 논의하였다.

영문 초록

This study is to explore the dynamics underlying mothering development by applying the Object Relations Theorist, Mahler’s perspective and feminist psychoanalyst, Chodorow’s perspective, and to explore the implications to Christian counseling. As Mahler views infant’s developmental process as ‘the Psychological Birth’, so this process is also mother’s process of ‘the Psychological Birth’. As Child is fulfilling the separation–individuation, so mother does in the relationship with her child. The identity that the mother experiences can be explained by the identity formed by the dual identification mechanism explained by Chodorow. In other words, the children’s identity of original family and mother’s identity of her own children have an impact with each other, so healthy or unhealthy mothering development may occur. In conclusion, explanation of mothering development based on the concept of separation–individuation and double identification has a clinical implication, in that women, who became mother not accomplish separation–individuation from her original family, can grow to mother who can do separate–individuate from her child. Based on the results of this study, the implications for Christian counseling were discussed.
