국문 초록

2027년 세계청년대회 서울 개최를 계기로 한국 교회 안에 청년들에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있다. 특히 이 시대 청년들이 처한 상황을 상세히 돌아보고, 그들을 향한 청년 사목을 활성화해 나가자는 담론이 폭넓게 공감을 얻고 있다. 이 논문은 한국 사회와 교회 안에서 살아가고 있는 청년들의 모습을 사회학적으로 살펴보고, 이를 신학적으로 해석하여 한국 교회가 청년사목에 보다 적극적으로 임할 수 있도록 조금이나마 보탬이 되고자 한다. 연구 결과, 오늘날 청년들은 교회를 떠나고 있으며, 남아있는 청년들도 교회에서 기쁨과 희망을 느끼지 못하는 경우가 많았다. 왜 그럴까? 청년들이 살아가고 있는 현실이 녹록치 않기 때문이었다. 한국 사회는 청년들에게 성공을 위해서는 끊임없이 자신을 몰아세워야 한다고 재촉하고 있고, 교회는 기성세대가 되어 그들의 고통을 외면하고 있었다. 이에 청년들은 교회가 아닌 다른 곳에서 위로와 만족감을 얻고 있었다. 따라서 교회는 무엇보다 청년들의 목소리를 경청함으로써 그들이 처한 상황을 이해하고, 그들에게 세상이 말하는 성공과는 다른, 곧 예수께서 알려주신 참 행복의 삶을 몸소 보여줌으로써 희망을 선사해야 한다. 나아가 그들도 예수께서 알려주신 참 행복의 삶을 살아갈 수 있도록 기꺼이 그들의 동반자가 되어줄 필요가 있다.

영문 초록

In light of the 2027 World Youth Day to be held in Seoul, there has been a rising interest in youth within the Korean Catholic Church. Specifically, there is growing support for the idea of closely examining the current si- tuation of youth and revitalizing youth ministry in the Church. This paper aims to sociologically explore the lives of youth living in Korean society and the Church, and to theologically interpret these findings in order to make even a small contribution to helping the Korean Church be engaged more actively in youth ministry. The research reveals that today’s youth are leaving the Church, and that those who remain often do not find joy or hope within her. Why is this the case? The reality these young people face is far from being easy. Korean society constantly pressures youth to push themselves toward success, while the Church, as part of the older generation, often overlooks their struggles. As a result, many youth would find solace and satisfaction outside the Church. Therefore, the Church must first and foremost listen to the voices of the youth to understand the situations they face. By showing them the true ha- ppiness of life, as taught by Jesus, the Church can offer hope, distinct from the worldly definition of success. Furthermore, it is essential that the Church be a willing companion to the youth, walking with them as they strive to live the life of true happiness taught by Jesus.
