John M. Keller의 ARCS 동기 모형을 활용한 국내 연구의 체계적 문헌 고찰

국문 초록

John M. Keller의 ARCS 동기 모형은 학습자의 동기를 고려한 교수학습을 고안하는데 있어서 폭넓게 고려되어 왔다. 1970년대 말에 제시되어 최근에 이르기까지 40여년의 시간이 지나면서 교육공학뿐만 아니라 다양한 교육 분야에서 적용되었고, 국내외의 문헌 고찰이 제시된 바 있다. 본 연구는 체계적인 문헌 고찰을 통하여 국내에서 John M. Keller의 동기 이론을 바탕으로 진행된 연구물들을경험적인 논문에 한정시키지 않고 다양한 연구 유형 및 그 경향성을 드러내고자 한다. 1994년부터 2020년까지의 국내 학술지 논문 중 John M. Keller를 인용한 277편의 논문을 이론적 논의, 교육상황의동기 특성 진단, 교수학습 프로그램의 고안과 적용, 검사지의 적용, 단순 인용 등의 일곱가지의 유형으로 구분하였다. 각 유형별로 연도, 연구대상, 연구 분야, 교육 프로그램의 목적, 교수학습 진행 형태, 그리고 사용한 검사지 등의 기준에 따라서 분석하였다. 연구 결과 교육 프로그램을 고안하는데 ARCS 동기 모형을 적용한 연구들이 높은 비율(53%)을 차지하였지만, 범주 2 ‘상황 진단’과 범주 6‘검사지만’ 연구 유형들도 30% 이상을 차지하였다. 이는 ARCS 동기 요소의 교수법적 고려 외에 Keller 연구물의 광범위한 적용을 보여준다. 한편, Keller의 검사지에 대한 신뢰도나 타당도에 대한 논의를 고찰한 결과를 바탕으로, 향후 Keller의 검사지 사용에서 고려할 점들에 대한 논의하였다.

영문 초록

Over 40 years since the late 1970s, John M. Keller s ARCS motivation model has been widely applied to various education fields worldwide, and there were valuable literature review on empirical studies based on this model. This systemic research review aims to reveal types and trends of articles which cited John M. Keller, collecting not only empirical studies but existing diverse research. Among the papers in peerreviewed korean journals from 1994 to 2020, 277 papers were selected and categorized into seven research types including theoretical argumentation, diagnosis of motivational characteristics of educational situations, design and application of instructional programs, application of the CIS(Course Interest Survey) and IMMS(Instructional Materials Motivation Survey), and simple mention. Each type was further analyzed in light of publication year, research subject, research field, purpose of the educational programs, assistance of ecucational computer/mobile technologies, and used questionnaires. As a result of the study, although more than half of the studies applied the ARCS model to implement educational programs and categorized into type 3, 4, and 5, the portion of other types of research were bigger than expected. The sum of type 2 and 6 research were also accounted for 30%, which were the type of research using ARCS model for diagnosis of motivational character, and the type of research not considering the ARCS model as a guiding principle for instructional design but only using the CIS and IMMS respectively. At the same time, validity and reliability of Keller’s questionnaires described in research were discussed. This study provided a frameworks to interpret Keller’s ARCS motivation model in research, consisting different kinds of empirical and theoretical research. Implications from this reviews were discussed.
