국문 초록

본 연구는 초등학교 고학년을 대상으로 성격 5요인 및 사회적 지지가 자기조절학습을 위한 주요 행동전략으로서 온․오프라인 상황에서의 학업적 도움요청 행동을 어떻게 예측하는지, 그리고 이러한 요인들이 학업성취도와 어떤 관계가 있는지 살펴보고자 하였다. 특히, 학생들이 오프라인과 온라인 상에서 사용하는 도움요청 행동에서의 차이를 살펴보고, 개인적 특성인 성격 요인과 환경적 특성인 사회적 지지 요인이 온라인 또는 오프라인 상의 도움요청 행동과 어떻게 관련되는지 알아보고자 하였다. 궁극적으로는 자기조절 전략으로서의 도움요청 행동과 학업성취도 간의 관계를 알아보고자 하였다. 연구 문제를 검증하기 위해 D지역의 초등학교 5, 6학년 학생 236명으로부터의 설문 결과를 분석하였으며, 구체적인 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 오프라인 상황에서는 학생들이 도구적 도움요청을 더 많이 하는 반면, 온라인 상황에서는 실행적 도움요청과 도움요청회피를 더 많이 하는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 성격 5요인 중 친화성, 성실성, 외향성이 도구적 도움요청행동을 정적으로 예측하는 것으로 나타났고, 외향성과 개방성은 도움요청가치지각을 정적으로 예측하였다. 또한 성실성은 실행적 도움요청을 부적으로 예측하였고, 외향성과 성실성이 도움요청회피행동을 부적으로 예측하였다. 셋째, 사회적 지지 요인 중에서는 교사지지만이 학생들의 도움요청행동을 유의하게 예측하는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째, 오프라인 상황에서 도구적 도움요청을 많이 할수록 그리고 온라인 상황에서 도움요청회피를 하지 않을수록 학업성취도가 유의하게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구 결과는 학업에서 도움요청행동의 중요성을 확인해 줄 뿐만 아니라 교사로서 학생들에게 도구적 도움요청과 같은 적응적 학습행동을 촉진하기 위해 학생들의 성격적인 측면을 고려하고 지지적 수업 환경을 조성할 필요성을 제안한다. 더불어 온라인 상에서의 적응적인 도움요청행동을 증진시킬 수 있는 방안을 강구해야 함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study was to explore how big five personality traits and social support would predict on-offline help-seeking behaviors as one of self-regulated learning strategies for upper elementary school students and how those variables would relate to students’ academic achievement. In particular, the study examined the differences in students’ help-seeking behaviors between offline and online situations, and also explored how personality as a personal characteristic and social support as an contextual characteristic would relate to students’ help-seeking behaviors. Ultimately, it examined the relations of help-seeking as a self-regulated learning strategy to academic achievement. To investigate those research questions, the data from 236 elementary school students in the fifth- and sixth-grades were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, correlation, paired sample t-test, and hierarchical regression. The results of the study are as follows. First, students showed more ‘instrumental help-seeking’ offline, whereas they showed more ‘executive help-seeking’ and ‘avoidance of help-seeking’ online. Second, among big five personality traits, ‘agreeableness’, ‘conscientiousness’, and ‘extraversion’ positively predicted ‘instrumental help-seeking’, and ’extraversion’ and ‘openness to experience’ positively predicted ‘perceived benefits of help-seeking.’ Also, ‘conscientiousness’ negatively predicted ‘executive help-seeking’, while ‘extraversion’ and ‘conscientiousness’ negatively predicted ‘avoidance of help-seeking.’ Third, of social supports, only ‘teacher support’ positively predicted ‘help-seeking behavior.’ Fourth, ‘academic achievement’ was positively predicted when students showed more ‘instrumental help-seeking’ offline but when they showed less ‘avoidance of help-seeking’ online. These results confirm the importance of help-seeking behaviors in learning and suggest that teachers should provide supportive learning environment for students while considering their personality traits in order to enhance adaptive learning behaviors such as instrumental help-seeking. In addition, they provide implications for the necessity to improve students’ adaptive online help-seeking behaviors.
