청동기시대 토기 기술 양식과 생산 체계에 대한 시론적 고찰: 관창리와 송국리 유적 토기의 지구화학적 분석을 중심으로

국문 초록

본고에서는 청동기시대 토기의 기술 양식에 기초하여, 중기 거점 취락 내⋅외부의 생산 체계를 비교⋅검토하기 위해 무문토기와 적색마연토기에 대한 지구화학적 분석(pXRF)을 실시하였다. 먼저, 충청 서해안지역의 거점 취락인 보령 관창리 유적과 주변 취락인 보령 진죽리, 주교리 유적을 대상으로, 토기를 매개로 한 유통⋅교환망의 존재 여부를 검토하고자 각 유적에서 출토된 무문토기와 적색마연토기의 화학 조성을 비교하였다. 분석 결과, 세 유적 간 토기 제작 전통과 기술 양식에 있어 상이성이 확인되나, 특수 기종인 적색마연토기의 경우 제작 전통을 공유하는 기술 양식 연계망이 공존하였을 가능성을 살필 수 있었다. 다음으로, 부여 송국리 유적에서는 방형계 주거지와 원형계 주거지 간에 서로 다른 토기 생산 체계가 공존했을 가능성을 규명하기 위해, 무문토기와 적색마연토기를 비교하였다. 분석 결과, 주거지별 출토 적색마연토기의 화학 조성에서 유의할만한 차이가 확인되었다. 이에 송국리 유적의 주거지 평면 형태와 관련해 제기된 여러 가설 중, 본 성분 조성 결과와 가장 잘 부합하는 가설들을 검토하였다. 본 연구는 제한된 분석으로 인해 통계 분석 및 해석에 일정한 한계가 존재할 수 있으나, 송국리와 관창리 두 거점 취락이 지역 내 표준화된 토기 생산 체계에서 핵심적 역할을 수행했을 가능성을 시사하였다.

영문 초록

This paper presents a geochemical analysis (pXRF) of plain(Mumun) pottery and red-burnished pottery to compare production systems within and outside Bronze Age core settlements, based on the technological styles of the pottery. First, to examine the potential existence of a distribution and exchange network mediated by pottery, the chemical compositions of Mumun and red-burnished pottery from the Gwanchang-ri site in Boryeong (a core settlement on the Chungcheong west coast) were compared with those from surrounding settlements at Jinjuk-ri and Jugyo-ri sites. The analysis confirmed differences in pottery production traditions and technological styles among the three sites. However, it also suggested the possible coexistence of a technological style network that shared production traditions, specifically for the specialized vessel type of red- burnished pottery. Next, at the Songguk-ri site in Buyeo, Mumun pottery and red-burnished pottery were compared to investigate the possibility that different pottery production systems coexisted between rectangular- and circular-plan dwellings. The results revealed a significant difference in the chemical composition of red burnished pottery excavated from the different dwelling types. Accordingly, among the various hypotheses proposed regarding the dwelling plan shapes at the Songguk-ri site, those that best align with these compositional results were reviewed. Although this study has certain limitations in statistical analysis and interpretation due to its restricted scope, it suggests that the two central settlements of Songguk-ri and Gwanchang-ri may have played a key role in the standardized pottery production systems within their respective regions. Future research should expand the number of sites analyzed and conduct more precise examinations to further deepen the understanding of the Bronze Age socioeconomic structure.
