신학의 원리에 대한 바빙크(Herman Bavinck)의 이해: 슐라이어마허(Friedrich D. E. Schleiermacher) 와의 조우를 중심으로

국문 초록

본고는 신학의 원리와 관련하여 19세기 신학계를 지배했던 자유주의 신학의 아버지인 슐라이어마허의 의식의 신학을 비판적으로 읽어낸 동시에 슐라이어마허를 통해 개혁주의 신학의 현대적 발전을 도모한 바빙크의 입장을 『거룩한 신학의 학문』과 『개혁교의학』제1권을 중심으로 살펴보고자 한다. 먼저 바빙크 당시에 슐라이어마허의 신학이 화란 신학계에 미친 역사적 배경을 살펴본 다음, 『거룩한 신학의 학문』에서 슐라이어마허와의 대결을 회피하지 않은 바빙크의 입장을 고찰하고, 이어서 『개혁교의학』제1권에 나타난 슐라이어마허에 대한 바빙크의 비판적 견해를 살펴본 후에, 결론적 평가를 내릴 것이다. 이 연구를 통해 알 수 있는 것은 19세기 이래 슐라이어마허가 교의학에 끼친 주관주의적 의식의 신학의 영향에 맞서서 바빙크가 개혁주의적이고 신칼빈주의적인 지성적 씨름을 통해서 거룩한 학문인 교의학의 기독교적 가치(pearls and leaven)를 학문적으로 뿐만 아니라 신학적으로정당하게 입증하였으며, 그로 말미암아 현대문화의 진보의 빛 아래 기독교 신학을 위한 미래를 창출하고자 했던 바빙크의 진정한 의도를 파악할 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

This paper seeks to understand the principle of theology in Herman Bavinck with regard to his confrontation with Friedrich Schleiermacher, the Father of 19th century modern and liberal theology. Bavinck tried to read critically Schleiermacher’s theology of the consciousness and he at the same time attempted to overcome the influence of subjective religion from the perspective of reformed theology. So we first deal with his position expressed in his inaugural address of professorship “De wetenschap der Heilige Godgeleerheid”, and secondly with the first volume of his masterpiece Reformed Dogmatics. We also examine the theological contexts of the Netherlands under the influence of Schleiermacher in Bavinck’s days. Then we survey the critical position of Bavinck who did not avoid the confrontation with Schleiermacher in the above-mentioned two works. We may understand from this study the fact that Bavinck had been in an intellectual wrestling with Schleiermacher based on his reformed and Neo-calvinistic perspective to prove the value of sacred science, that is dogmatics, not only scientifically but theologically as well. Thus it becomes clear that Bavinck intended to secure a significant future for the reformed theology through his contact with the progressive modern culture.
