국문 초록

연구목적: 본 연구는 르완다 여성 가장 극빈곤가구 자활프로그램의 효과를 확인하고 해당 효과에의 영향요인으로서 코치 신뢰와 관련 요인들을 살펴봄으로써 해당 프로그램 및 유사 사업에의 사업적 정책적 함의를 제공하고자 하였다. 연구의 중요성: 극빈곤가구 자활프로그램의 효과뿐만 아니라 코치 신뢰가 사업 효과에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 확인함으로써, 해당 프로그램의 작동 기제를 이해하고 확산하는 데 기여한다. 또한 코치 신뢰에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 사업참여자와 코치 수준별로 확인함으로써, 코칭 활동을 통한 사업 효과를 극대화하기 위한 방안을 논의한다는 점에서 의의가 있다. 연구방법론: 본 연구는 비교집단 사전 사후 실험설계에 따라 수집된 설문조사 데이터를 분석하였다. 먼저 사업 효과를 확인하고자 이중차이분석을 수행하였고, 다음으로 사업참여자들의 코치 신뢰가 사업 효과에 미치는 영향을 확인하고자 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 마지막으로 코치 신뢰에의 영향 요인을 확인하기 위해 위계적 회귀분석을 수행하였다. 연구결과: 첫째, UPG 사업은 가구 소득을 제외한 식이다양성과 저축, 희망, 지역사회 참여를 증진하는 데 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 사업참여자의 코치에 대한 신뢰가 높을수록 희망과 식이다양성, 가구 소득의 증가가 더 크게 나타났다. 셋째, 코치 신뢰 형성에는 참여자 요인보다 코치의 특성이나 역량이 더 중요한 요인으로 나타났다. 특히 코치의 성별이나 혼인 상태, Ubudehe 등급 등 인구사회학적 특성이 참여자와 유사하거나, 교육 수준이나 직업 등 경험과 역량이 높을수록 신뢰도 높았다. 결론 및 시사점: 극빈곤가구 자활 프로그램으로서 UPG 모델이 르완다 국가전략 달성을 위한 수단으로서 확대될 필요가 있다. 더불어 해당 성과 극대화를 위해 사업참여자와 지역 맥락을 고려하여 코칭 활동을 보다 세밀하게 설계할 필요가 있다. 또한 코치의 선발과 훈련에 있어, 참여자와의 유사성과 역량을 우선으로 고려해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

Purpose: This study aimed to generate practical and policy implications for similar programs by assessing the effectiveness of a self-support program targeting ultra-poor, women-headed households in Rwanda, with a particular focus on the role of coach trust and related factors influencing program outcomes. Originality: By demonstrating not only the program’s overall impact but also the influence of trust in coaches, this study highlights the need to expand such initiatives and deepens understanding of the mechanisms through which they operate. Furthermore, it contributes to the discourse on how to maximize program effectiveness by identifying determinants of coach trust at both the participant and coach levels. Methodology: The analysis was based on survey data collected using a quasi-experimental pre-post design with a comparison group. First, a difference-in-differences analysis was conducted to assess the program’s impact. Second, multiple regression analysis was performed to examine the effect of participants’ trust in their coaches on program outcomes. Finally, hierarchical regression analysis was used to identify factors influencing trust in coaches. Result: The findings indicate, first, that the UPG project was effective in improving food consumption diversity, savings, hope, and community participation, although no significant effect was found for household income. Second, higher levels of trust in coaches were associated with greater improvements in hope, dietary diversity, and household income. Third, the characteristics and competencies of coaches were found to be more critical determinants of trust than the characteristics of participants themselves. Specifically, trust levels were higher when coaches had favorable demographic attributes, as well as greater professional competence. Conclusions and Implication: The UPG model should be considered for scaled implementation aligned with Rwanda’s national poverty reduction strategy. To maximize impact, coaching design should reflect participant profiles and local contexts, and coach recruitment/training should prioritize relevant similarity and competencies.
