흉노 무덤 출토 등잔의 의미와 기원을 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 흉노 무덤에서 출토된 등잔의 기본 특성과 출토 양상을 분석하였다. 등잔은 재질과 형태별로 분류하여 형식 변화를 분석한 결과, 대체로 저부형·청동제 두형 ⟶ 잔형·철제 두형 ⟶ 토제·청동제 접시형으로 변화하는 경향이 확인되었다. 출토 맥락을 살펴보면, 등잔은 주로 반유목 생활을 영위한 비교적 높은 계층의 무덤에서 확인되었다. 귀족층 방형묘에서는 청동제와 토제 접시형이, 일반층 원형묘에서는 철제 두형과 토제 잔형·저부형이 주로 출토되었다. 이는 등잔 형식이 무덤 구조와 계층 구분과 밀접하게 연관됨을 시사한다. 등잔의 기원을 밝히기 위해 스키타이 및 한나라 출토품과 비교하였다. 스키타이와는 직접적인 유사성이 없으나 일부 용기는 잔형·저부형과 유사하였다. 한나라와의 비교에서는 토제 두형과 청동제 두형이 출토 수가 매우 적어 직접적인 관련을 단정하기 어렵다. 다만, 청동제 두형은 형태와 무늬면에서 한나라 두형 등잔과 유사하였다. 토제 접시형 등잔은 구조적 유사성을 보이지만, 완전히 동일한 사례는 확인되지 않았고, 장기간 독자적인 특징을 유지해온 점으로 미루어 현지에서 제작된 것으로 추정된다. 청동제 접시형은 한나라와 매우 유사하지만 합금 특성이 달라 모방 제작 가능성이 있다. 한나라와 흉노 무덤의 철제 등잔은 모두 일정한 형태가 없어 직접적인 관련성을 찾기 어렵다. 그러나 흉노 사회에서 철제품이 제작된 정황을 고려하면 현지 제작 가능성을 충분히 고려할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This paper reclassifies 40 oil lamps excavated from Xiongnu tombs based on their material and form. Based on this classification, the study analyzes the changes in lamp types in tombs with confirmed dates, revealing a trend from recycled type and bronze bean-shaped lamps → cup-shaped and iron bean-shaped lamps → plate-shaped and bronze plate-shaped lamps. Additionally, an analysis of the relationship between the lamps, excavation sites, and tomb structures reveals that the lamps found in Xiongnu tombs were primarily associated with semi-nomadic groups, suggesting that lamp use was more prevalent in semi-nomadic lifestyles than in fully nomadic ones. In aristocratic rectangular tombs, bean-shaped and plate-type lamps are predominantly found, whereas cup-shaped and recycled-type lamps are more common in the round tombs of ordinary individuals. This pattern indicates a clear correlation between lamp forms and social status. To explore the origin of Xiongnu lamps, a comparison was made with lamps from Scythian and Han dynasty tombs. No direct similarities were found between Scythian and Xiongnu lamps. However, certain vessels from Scythian sites resembled the shape of cup-shaped and recycled type lamps. A comparison with Han dynasty lamps revealed that while Xiongnu plate-type lamps were similar in form, they were simpler and lacked additional components, suggesting they were locally produced. Furthermore, while the bronze lamps from the Xiongnu and Han periods are similar in form, they show differences in alloy composition, suggesting that the lamps may have been imported from Han China to the Xiongnu, but with modifications made according to local conditions. The iron lamps found in both Han and Xiongnu tombs do not show direct similarities in form.
