원삼국시대~백제 한성기 중부지역의 인구변동: 주거지와 탄소연대측정치를 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 원삼국시대~백제 한성기 중부지역의 인구변동 양상을 살펴보고 변동의 배경 및 영 향에 대해 검토한다. 이 시기는 백제가 고대국가로서의 면모를 보이는 시기이다. 이러한 단계에서 인구는 정치, 군사, 경제 등과 직결되는 중요한 변수이기에 다방면에서 당시 사회 변화의 주요 원 인으로 거론되고 있다. 하지만 이 시기의 인구변동은 어떤 고고학 자료를 활용하는지에 따라 상반 된 결과를 보이고 있으며 이러한 견해 차이의 간극은 좁혀지지 않고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 주거지와 탄소연대측정치를 각각 보완하여 인구변동을 검토하고 해당 결과를 비교하였다. 그 결과, 원삼국시대~백제 한성기 중부지역에서는 기원전후 이후 인구가 증가 하여, AD 3~4세기경에 정점에 이르고, 3세기 중엽에는 인구성장률이 줄어들며, 5세기부터는 인 구가 감소하는 것으로 판단된다. 나아가 인구변동을 당시 사회상과 종합하여 검토하였다. 이를 통해 원삼국시대~백제 한성기 중부지역의 인구증가 양상은 정치적·경제적 배경에 따른 현상일 가능성을 제시하였고, 여러 사회 적 변수와의 선순환 속에서 이루어진 것임을 추론하였다. 또한 인구감소 양상은 고구려와의 장기 적인 갈등과 같은 사회 외적 요소와 인구압과 같은 사회 내적 요소에 의해 인구증가 메커니즘이 붕괴하면서 비롯된 것임을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

This study examines the population changes in the central region during the Proto-Three Kingdoms Period to the Hanseong Period of Baekje, analyzing the background and impact of these changes. This period marks Baekje's emergence as an ancient state. Population during this stage is a critical variable directly connected to political, military, and economic factors, frequently cited as a major cause of social changes at the time. However, the results of population change studies for this period vary depending on the archaeological data used, and the gap in these perspectives has not been bridged. Therefore, this study reviewed population changes using summed probability distribution and the number of pit house, comparing the results from each method. The findings indicate that in the central region during the Proto-Three Kingdoms Period to the Hanseong Period of Baekje, the population increased after the turn of the century, peaked around the 3rd to 4th centuries, started to decrease around AD 250, and continued to decline from the 5th century onward. Furthermore, the population changes were examined in conjunction with the social context of the time. The study suggests that the population growth in the central region during the Proto-Three Kingdoms Period to the Hanseong Period of Baekje likely resulted from political and social backgrounds and was part of a virtuous cycle involving various social variables. Additionally, the population decline was found to be due to the collapse of population growth mechanisms influenced by external factors such as prolonged conflicts with Goguryeo and internal factors such as population pressure.
