조선 장애여성의 돌봄, 그 이중적 의미

국문 초록

본고는 돌봄의 주체와 객체라는 점에서 조선의 텍스트들에 나타난 장애여성에 대해 생각해 보는 것을 목표로 삼았다. 조선의 장애여성은 장애인이면서 동시에 여성이고, 또한 전통적인 여성의 굴레 속에 있는 존재이기 쉽다. 그런데 장애여성은 여성 논의에서 제외되기 십상이었다. 장애여성을 주요하게 다룬 조선의 텍스트가 별반 없지만, 장애여성이 장애남성과도 다르고 여성이기만 한 것도 아니어서, 장애여성을 별도로 다룰 필요는 있었다. 먼저 2장에서 현대 돌봄 논의를 간단히 살폈다. 돌봄 논의가 페미니즘 연장선에 있어 더욱 그럴 필요가 있었다. 그런데 논의가 근현대 중심이란 점, 돌봄의 객체가 종종 소외된 점이 한계였다고 보았다. 3장과 4장에서는 비장애여성과 장애여성의 돌봄을 편의상 나누어 논의했다. 의존성의 면에서 조선 비장애여성도 삼종지도의 원칙상 돌봄의 객체인 동시에, 기혼 여성이 특히 병든 시부모의 주된 돌봄 주체였다는 점에서 이중적이라고 했다. 그리고 장애여성은 실질적인 돌봄의 객체이면서, 돌봄의 주체이고 싶어 했던 존재로 파악했다. 그래서 그들에게 여성성과 모성성이 더욱 절실했다고 보았다.

영문 초록

From the perspective of care, this paper aimed to examine disabled women who appeared in various texts of Joseon. Disabled women in Joseon are both disabled and female, and are likely to be in the traditional bondage of women. There is no particular text from Joseon that mainly deals with disabled women, but disabled women are different from men with disabilities and are not just women, so they need to be dealt with separately. First, in Chapter 2, we briefly looked at the discussion of modern care. The care discussion needed to be more so as to extend feminism. In Chapter 3, first of all, in terms of dependence, it was discussed that Joseon women were objects of care under the principle of the Three Order of Guidance, and married women were especially dual in that they were the main caregivers of sick parents-in-law. In Chapter 4, it was identified that women with disabilities were both objects of practical care and wanted to be subjects of care. For example, the reason why the protagonist of the three basic “Old Woman's Song” is so obsessed with marriage is not just a matter of sex, but rather a search for the “role” of disabled women, that is, finding femininity and maternity, which are important in caring discussions. In conclusion, disabled women can have a positive image of themselves when they are female genders rather than when they are disabled.
