Objective: Hearing aids use in older adults can compensate for hearing loss and improve auditory feedback to reduce speech distortion. This study aims to confirm the possibility of monitoring indicators of hearing aids use status by observing changes in acoustic characteristics according to hearing aids use. Method: 15 hearing aid user group (67.32±5.21 years) and 15 non-hearing aid user group (68.27±1.65 years) participated in the study. Satisfaction with hearing aids use was determined by the IOI-HA to separate the subgroups into satisfied HA-users and inconvenience HA-users. The vowels /a/, /i/ and /u/ were recorded and analyzed for pitch, intensity, frequency and amplitude of F1 and F2, jitter, shimmer and the differences were statistically verified. The vowel triangles were visually analyzed for differences. Results: Significant differences in acoustic characteristics between the two groups were observed for pitch, intensity, F1 and F2, jitter, and shimmer. The acoustic characteristics of the subgroups were significantly different in pitch, intensity, F1 and F2 frequencies. Vowel triangles was observed to be wider in the non-hearing aid user group than in the hearing aid user group. Conclusion: Hearing aids user's voice can be used as an indicator to monitoring hearing aids use status.
