국문 초록

본 연구는 학교 밖 청소년의 비행피해경험이 비행가해경험에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 이 관계에서 사회적 차별의 매개효과를 규명하는 데 목적이 있다. 기존 연구들이 학교 밖 청소년의 비행행동에 대한 위험요인을 주로 개인적 특성이나 환경적 요인에 초점을 맞추어왔던 것과 달리, 본 연구는 피해 경험과 사회 구조적 맥락인 차별 경험에 주목하였다. 이를 통해 학교 밖 청소년의 비행 행동을 보다 복합적이고 입체적으로 이해하고자 하였다. 한국청소년정책연구원에서 2023년 4월부터 12월까지 진행된 「2023년 학교 밖 청소년 실태조사」 데이터를 2차 자료로 활용하였다. 연구대상은 전국의 학교 밖 청소년 2,486명으로, 구조화된 설문지를 통해 비행피해경험, 비행가해경험, 사회적 차별 경험을 측정하였다. SPSS 27.0과 Process Macro Model 4(Hayes, 2022)를 사용하여 분석되었으며, 경로분석을 통해 각 변수 간의 인과관계를 검토하였다. 분석 과정에서는 매개효과의 유의성을 확인하기 위해 부트스트래핑 기법을 병행하였다. 연구 결과, 학교 밖 청소년의 비행피해경험은 비행가해경험에 유의미한 정(+)적 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 사회적 차별 경험은 이 관계에서 부분 매개 역할을 수행하는 것으로 확인되었다. 이는 비행피해를 경험한 청소년이 사회적으로 차별받는 경험을 하게 되고, 이로 인해 공격적이고 비행적인 행동으로 이어질 가능성이 있음을 시사한다. 이러한 결과는 학교 밖 청소년의 비행행동을 단순한 개인적 일탈로 보기보다는, 이들이 처한 사회적 맥락과 그로부터 발생하는 심리적·정서적 반응을 고려할 필요가 있음을 강조한다. 특히 사회적 차별이라는 구조적 요인이 이들의 비행 행동에 중요한 영향을 미친다는 점은 정책 및 실천적 개입에서 중요한 함의를 가진다. 본 연구는 학교 밖 청소년의 비행 문제를 예방하고 개입하기 위해, 이들의 피해경험과 사회적 차별을 감소시킬 수 있는 통합적 지원체계 마련이 필요하다는 점을 제언한다. 향후 연구에서는 다양한 유형의 차별 경험과 그 기제에 대한 심층적 분석, 그리고 제도적 대응 방안에 대한 탐색이 병행되어야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of victimization experiences on delinquency among out-of-school youth and to examine the mediating effect of social discrimination on this relationship. Unlike previous studies that have focused on individual characteristics or environmental factors as risk factors for out-of-school youth delinquent behavior, this study focuses on victimization experiences and discrimination experiences in a social structural context. This study aims to provide a more complex and three-dimensional understanding of out-of-school youth delinquent behavior. We used secondary data from the “2023 Out-of-School Youth Survey” conducted by the Korea Youth Policy Research Institute from April to December 2023 as our primary data. The study included 2,486 out-of-school youth nationwide, and measured their experiences of delinquency victimization, delinquency harm, and social discrimination through a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 and Process Macro Model 4 (Hayes, 2022), and path analysis was used to examine the causal relationship between each variable. Bootstrapping was used to test the significance of mediating effects. The results of the study showed that out-of-school youth's experience of delinquency victimization had a significant positive effect on delinquency victimization, and social discrimination was found to play a partial mediating role in this relationship. This suggests that youth who have experienced delinquency victimization are more likely to experience social discrimination, which may lead to aggressive and delinquent behavior. These findings highlight the need to consider the social contexts in which out-of-school youth delinquency occurs and the psychological and emotional responses that arise from them, rather than viewing delinquent behavior as a simple individual aberration. In particular, the finding that structural factors such as social discrimination play a significant role in their delinquent behavior has important implications for policy and practice interventions. This study suggests that in order to prevent and intervene in out-of-school youth delinquency, it is necessary to develop integrated support systems that can reduce their experiences of victimization and social discrimination. Future research should include an in-depth analysis of different types of discrimination experiences and their mechanisms, as well as an exploration of institutional responses.
