국문 초록

This study explores the possibility of applying naturally occurring repetition from daily life to the EFL classroom. Five upper-intermediate English major university students were selected as participants. The material used was the 2009 American animated film Up (Docter & Peterson, 2009). Over a three-month period, participants engaged in integrational repetition training using newly selected expressions from the animation. After the training, they attempted to use these expressions in real-life conversations with friends, family members, or acquaintances. Participant A successfully integrated three out of four expressions through repeated use with a single conversation partner. Participant B began with a segregational approach, using two expressions with different people, but ultimately achieved integrational repetition. Participant C also used a segregational approach for three expressions, which were later applied naturally in the workplace. Participant D selected two expressions and used them in a group setting with two individuals, achieving full integration. Participant E remained at a segregational stage due to limited ability to initiate and sustain conversation. The findings suggest that integrational repetition in everyday life depends on conversational initiative. To make classroom repetition more integrational, instructional design should include the kinds of conversation strategies that participants developed and employed during their real-world interactions.
