이 논문은 안드레이 플라토노프의 소설 『체벤구르』에서 나타나는 ‘기름 부음’의 주제를 줄리아 크리스테바의 비천(abjection) 이론을 통해 분석한다. 신학적 의미의 ‘기름 부음’은 육체성과 영혼성을 유기적으로 연결한다. 신체에 향유를 붓는 행위는 신의 섭리를 내면화하고 영적 공동체와의 통합을 상징하는데, 플라토노프의 소설에서는 체액이 그 역할을 한다. 크리스테바는 체액을 의미와 정체성의 붕괴를 초래하는 요소로 보지만, 플라토노프는 그것을 주체 간의 간극을 회복하는 매개체로 본다. 『체벤구르』에서 체액은 인간 영혼의 물질화를 나타내며, 이러한 액체를 몸에 붓는 행위는 이상적이고 원초적인 상호 주관적 관계의 상태를 회복시킨다. 본 연구는 플라토노프의 작품에서 나타나는 독특한 도유의 형태를 이해하고, 이러한 ‘기름 부음’을 통해서만 ‘새로운 인간’이 완성될 수 있음을 규명한다. 이러한 변화는 플라토노프의 언어에서도 드러나는데, 단어는 모순되거나 예상치 못한 의미와 연결됨으로써 풍부해지며 변형되며 재정의된다. ‘의미적 기름 부음’이라 부를 수 있는 이 현상은 전체주의 체제가 강요하는 경직된 언어적 틀에 대립하는 플라토노프의 글쓰기이다. 이 논문은 도유가 인간을 변형시키듯 플라토노프의 독특한 언어 역시 인간과 사회를 변형시킬 힘을 갖고 있음을 주장한다.

영문 초록

This article explores the intersection of corporeality, spirituality, and language in Andrei Platonov’s novel Chevengur, with a particular focus on the theological concept of anointing and its relationship to bodily fluids. By comparing Platonov’s depiction of bodily fluids with Julia Kristeva’s theory of “abjection,” this article argues that, whereas Kristeva views bodily fluids as symbols of a breakdown of meaning and identity, Platonov presents them as agents of restoration. In Chevengur, bodily fluids represent the materialization of the human soul, and the act of pouring these fluids over the body restores an ideal, primordial state of intersubjective relations. Just as the body accepts oil during anointing and is transformed into a new being, words in Platonov’s language are enriched, transformed, or redefined through their association with contradictory or unexpected meanings. This process, which I term “semantic anointment,” enables language to absorb new meanings. By accepting the abject, Platonov’s language generates new thought, in contrast to the rigid linguistic frameworks imposed by totalitarian regimes. Through its analysis of Platonov’s coarse, vivid language, this article argues that Chevengur reclaims the transformative power of language and bodily fluids, suggesting that meaning is renewed through connection to the abject, rather than its expulsion.
