공단 주변 외국인 밀집지역의 범죄두려움에 대한 영향요인 연구: 구미시 사례를 중심으로

국문 초록

목적: 대한민국은 오랫 동안 단일 민족의 정체성을 지녀왔으나, 외국인 노동자와 결혼 이민자의 유입이 본격화되면서 점차 다문화적인 사회로 변화하고 있다. 특히 외국인 노동자가 많은 공업 도시에서는 공단 주변을 중심으로 외국인 밀집 지역이 형성되기 시작하였으며, 일부 지역에서는 원주민과 외국인 간의 갈등이 발생하기도 하였다. 이와 함께 외국인에 의한 범죄 발생에 대한 지역 주민의 우려도 증가하고 있다. 이 연구는 국내 대표적인 공업도시인 구미시의 공단 주변 외국인 밀집 지역에서 지역거주민의 범죄두려움에 대한 영향요인을 검증하고자 하였다. 방법: 구미시 공단 지역 거주민 115명에게 범죄두려움, CPTED 요소(CCTV·가로등·도로·어린이보호구역) 인식, 외국인에 대한 인식, 집합효율성에 대한 설문조사를 실시하였고, 중다회귀분석으로 응답을 분석하였다. 결과: 외국인에 대한 부정적 인식은 유의한 영향을 미치지 않았으며, 가로등 효과성과 집합효율성이 범죄두려움에 부적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 논점: 연구 결과에 따라 가로등 확보를 중심으로 하는 CPTED의 필요성과 지역 거주민 간 유대 강화의 중요성을 제언하였다.

영문 초록

Purpose: South Korea has long maintained a homogeneous ethnic identity, but with the increasing influx of foreign workers and marriage immigrants, the country is gradually becoming more multicultural. In industrial cities with a high population of foreign workers, foreigner-concentrated areas have begun to form around industrial complexes, occasionally leading to conflicts between native residents and foreigners. Additionally, concerns about crimes committed by foreigners are growing among local residents. This study aimed to examine the factors influencing residents’ fear of crime in foreigner-concentrated areas near industrial complexes in Gumi, a representative industrial city in Korea. Methods: A survey was conducted on 115 residents of the industrial area in Gumi City regarding their fear of crime, perception of CPTED elements (CCTV, streetlights, roads, and child protection zones), perception of foreigners, and collective efficacy. The responses were analyzed using multiple regression analysis. Results: The results revealed that negative perceptions of foreigners did not have a significant effect, whereas the effectiveness of streetlights and collective efficacy had negative effects on fear of crime. Conclusion: Based on these findings, the study suggests the importance of implementing CPTED measures, such as securing adequate streetlighting, and strengthening ties among local residents.
